Position: Production Engineer – Fabrication & Planning

Department: Production

Reporting To: Production Manager

Job Summary

The Production Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, monitoring, and controlling fabrication activities to ensure timely execution of projects while maintaining quality, safety, and productivity standards. The role involves coordination with Design, Procurement, Vendors, Production Teams, and Quality departments to achieve project targets and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Production Planning & Work Allocation

- Review daily production schedules and work plans.
- Identify priority jobs based on dispatch commitments, inspection schedules, and project requirements.
- Ensure fabrication drawings, BOMs, and work instructions are available at the shop floor.
- Verify that supervisors understand and can effectively communicate drawing requirements to fabrication teams.
- Allocate work to welders, fitters, grinders, buffers, and helpers based on workload and skill requirements.
- Monitor outsourced activities and follow up with vendors for laser cutting, rolling, bending, machining, and fabrication work.
- Design Coordination & Nesting

- Coordinate with the design team for daily nesting reviews and material optimization.
- Ensure all fabrication drawings are complete, approved, and technically correct before releasing them to production.
- Verify cutting plans against available stock and leftover materials.
- Finalize and release laser cutting, bending, and rolling drawings.
- Share updated drawings and technical requirements with vendors.
- Ensure vendors are provided with clear quality requirements, including surface finish, PVC protection, dimensional accuracy, and damage prevention.
- Procurement Coordination





- Coordinate material requirements with the procurement department.
- Raise Purchase Requisitions (PR) for required materials and consumables.
- Follow up on procurement activities from PR to Purchase Order and delivery.
- Ensure timely availability of materials as per fabrication schedules and project BOQ requirements.
- Production Monitoring & Control

- Ensure all production activities commence as per the approved schedule.
- Monitor daily progress against planned targets.
- Identify production bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
- Track critical materials, components, and activities affecting project timelines.
- Coordinate with internal teams and vendors to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
- Quality Assurance & Material Control

- Ensure fabrication activities are carried out as per approved drawings.
- Monitor welding quality, fit-up alignment, dimensional accuracy, and surface finish.
- Inspect incoming fabricated and outsourced components.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.
- Monitor material utilization, scrap control, and consumable usage.
- Manpower & Safety Management

- Review daily attendance and manpower availability.
- Ensure optimum utilization of manpower resources.
- Minimize idle time and monitor overtime requirements.
- Enforce PPE compliance and safe work practices.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of gas cylinders and fabrication equipment.




- Promote a protected working environment and prevent unsafe acts and conditions.
- Dispatch & Inspection Coordination

- Ensure products are ready for inspection as per project schedules.
- Verify final cleaning and finishing activities before dispatch.
- Prepare and maintain required inspection and dispatch documentation.
- Coordinate customer inspections and address observations if any.
- Reporting & Documentation

- Update daily production progress reports.
- Record delays, deviations, and corrective actions.
- Maintain vendor performance and procurement status reports.
- Prepare daily and weekly production plans.
- Support management with production status updates and project progress reports.

Required Qualifications

- Diploma / Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

5-7 years of experience in relevant fields

- Experience in fabrication, sheet metal, heavy fabrication, or process equipment manufacturing preferred.

Required Skills

- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and BOMs.
- Knowledge of welding, fabrication, laser cutting, bending, and rolling processes.
- Production planning and scheduling skills.
- Vendor coordination and follow-up.
- Material planning and procurement coordination.
- Quality inspection and fabrication standards.
- Strong communication and team coordination skills.
- Proficiency in MS Excel
- Understanding of workplace safety requirements and PPE compliance.

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
