Job Description – Housekeeping Supervisor (Hospital)

Department: Housekeeping
Designation: Housekeeping Supervisor
Reporting To: HR Manager
Location: Vivekananda Hospital

1. Job Purpose

To supervise and coordinate housekeeping activities across the hospital, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene, infection-control practices, safety, and patient-friendly environment in all areas.

2. Key Responsibilities

- Supervise and monitor housekeeping staff and their daily activities.
- Allocate duties, shifts, and work areas to housekeeping staff.
- Ensure proper cleaning and disinfection of patient rooms, wards, OPD areas, corridors, toilets, offices, staircases, and other hospital premises.
- Ensure special attention to ICU, OT, emergency, isolation areas, procedure rooms, and other critical areas as per hospital protocols.
- Monitor compliance with hospital infection-control and biomedical waste management procedures.
- Ensure proper segregation, collection, transportation, and disposal of waste as per hospital guidelines.
- Check availability and appropriate use of cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, mops, PPE, and other housekeeping materials.
- Maintain housekeeping equipment and report any defects or breakdowns promptly.
- Conduct regular rounds to inspect cleanliness and hygiene standards.
- Attend to complaints related to housekeeping services and resolve them promptly.
- Coordinate with Nursing, Administration, Maintenance, Security, and other departments whenever required.
- Train and guide housekeeping staff on cleaning procedures, infection prevention, PPE usage, safety, and professional conduct.
- Ensure staff follow proper uniform, grooming, attendance, and discipline standards.
- Maintain daily housekeeping checklists, duty allocation records, inspection reports, and other required documentation.
- Monitor attendance, absenteeism, overtime, and staff deployment.
- Ensure adequate housekeeping manpower is available in all shifts.




- Monitor consumption and stock of housekeeping materials and submit requirements to the concerned department.
- Ensure protected handling and storage of cleaning chemicals.
- Report incidents, hazards, damages, or safety concerns to the concerned authority immediately.
- Support hospital audits, NABH inspections, and internal quality assessments.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, SOPs, and quality standards.
- Perform any other housekeeping-related duties assigned by the management.

3. Required Qualifications

- Minimum 10th/Intermediate qualification; graduate preferred.
- Previous experience in hospital housekeeping or healthcare facility management is preferred.
- Knowledge of hospital cleaning, disinfection, infection control, and waste management practices.

4. Skills & Competencies

- Good supervisory and team-management skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of hospital hygiene and infection-control practices.
- Ability to handle staff discipline and resolve workplace issues.
- Good observation and inspection skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
- Basic documentation and reporting skills.
- Patient-friendly and service-oriented attitude.

5. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Cleanliness and hygiene standards maintained across assigned areas.
- Compliance with cleaning and disinfection schedules.
- Timely resolution of housekeeping complaints.
- Proper biomedical waste segregation and handling.
- Staff attendance, discipline, and productivity.
- Proper utilization of housekeeping materials and equipment.
- Compliance with NABH and hospital housekeeping standards.
- Patient and departmental satisfaction with housekeeping services.

6. Working Conditions

- Willingness to work in rotational shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.
- Must follow hospital safety, infection-control, PPE, and grooming requirements.
- Regular movement throughout the hospital premises is required.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
