Job Description: Purchase Engineer
- Location: Umargam, GIDC, Gujarat
- Department: SCM (Supply Chain Management) / Purchase & Procurement
- Reporting To: Purchase Manager / Head of Supply Chain
1. Job Summary
The Purchase Engineer will be responsible for end-to-end procurement activities for raw materials, engineering components, fabrication items, standard hardware, and sub-assemblies required for manufacturing fire fighting vehicles, specialty vehicles, and pumps. The role involves vendor development, cost negotiation, purchase order processing, and ensuring timely delivery to meet production schedules.
2. Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Procurement & Order Execution:
- Review Purchase Requisitions (PR) generated by production/planning departments.
- Source, negotiate, and issue Purchase Orders (POs) for raw materials (steel plates, sections), automotive chassis components, electrical parts, pumps, valves, and fabrication materials at optimal costs.
- Ensure timely placement of POs and track delivery schedules to prevent production delays.
- Vendor Management & Development:
- Evaluate and onboard recent suppliers/vendors to build a robust and cost-effective vendor base.
- Conduct periodic vendor performance evaluations based on quality, delivery, and pricing.
- Negotiate long-term rate contracts, credit terms, and volume discounts with key vendors.
- Cross-functional Coordination:
- Coordinate closely with the Quality Control (QC) department to resolve rejections, quality discrepancies, and material returns.
- Work alongside the Production and Stores teams to maintain optimum inventory levels and avoid stockouts or excess inventory.
- Coordinate with the accounts department for timely clearance of vendor invoices, payments, and reconciliation.
- Cost Optimization & Market Analysis:
- Continuously scan the market for cost-saving opportunities and alternative material sourcing without compromising quality standards.
- Track material price trends, market fluctuations, and statutory compliances.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain up-to-date records of all procurement transactions, quotations, comparative statements, and vendor databases.
- Prepare MIS reports related to purchase orders, pending deliveries, cost savings, and inventory status for management review.
3. Candidate Profile & Requirements
- Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Automobile Engineering / Production Engineering (or a Diploma with relevant experience).
- Experience:
- 2 to 5 years of core industrial procurement experience, preferably in heavy engineering, automotive manufacturing, fabrication, or the firefighting equipment industry.
- Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Sound technical knowledge of mechanical components, raw materials, and manufacturing/fabrication processes.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/custom ERP) and MS Office (especially Excel).
- Ability to read engineering drawings and Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Strong problem-solving abilities and high integrity.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
