1. Position Details
Designation: Staff Nurse
Department: Nursing / Clinical Services
Location: MACare Diagnostics & Polyclinic, Irinjalakuda
Reporting To: Nursing In-Charge / Centre Head
Employment Type: Full time
2. Job Summary
The Staff Nurse is responsible for providing safe, compassionate and high-quality nursing care to patients attending MACare Diagnostics & Polyclinic. The role includes patient assessment, monitoring vital signs, administering medications as prescribed, assisting doctors during consultations and procedures, maintaining accurate clinical records, and ensuring patient safety and infection-control standards.
The Staff Nurse should maintain professional behaviour, confidentiality and effective communication with patients, relatives, doctors and other staff members. These responsibilities are consistent with standard Indian hospital nursing duties, including patient care, medication administration, procedure assistance, documentation and shift handover.
3. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Patient Care
- Receive and attend to patients promptly and courteously.
- Assess the patient's basic nursing needs and provide appropriate care.
- Check and record vital signs such as BP, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate and SpO₂.
- Monitor patients before, during and after medical procedures.
- Provide appropriate comfort, hygiene and basic nursing care.
- Observe changes in the patient's condition and immediately report significant findings to the doctor.
- Provide appropriate support to patients and their attendants.
B. Medication & Clinical Procedures
- Administer medicines, injections and other treatments strictly as prescribed by the doctor.
- Assist doctors during examinations, minor procedures, dressings and other clinical interventions.
- Perform nursing procedures within the scope of professional qualification and institutional protocols.
- Assist with IV access, IV medication/fluids, nebulization, oxygen therapy, dressing and other procedures as required.
- Prepare patients for diagnostic investigations and procedures.
- Collect, label and send patient specimens according to established protocols.
- Ensure proper documentation of medicines and procedures provided.
C. Emergency Care
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies within the clinic.
- Assist the doctor and clinical team during emergency situations.
- Ensure emergency equipment, medicines and supplies are readily available.
- Check the emergency/crash trolley and report shortages or expired items.
- Follow established emergency and patient-safety protocols.
D. Doctor & Department Coordination
- Assist doctors during OP consultations and clinical procedures.
- Coordinate with the laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, reception and other departments whenever required.
- Ensure patients are properly prepared before investigations or procedures.
- Assist in patient transfer to appropriate departments or hospitals when required.
- Maintain proper communication and handover between shifts.
E. Documentation & Records
- Maintain accurate nursing notes and patient records.
- Record vital signs, medication administration and procedures performed.
- Maintain nursing registers, emergency records and other departmental documents.
- Ensure all clinical records are updated accurately and on time.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and safeguard medical information.
F. Infection Control & Safety
- Strictly follow hand hygiene and infection-control practices.
- Ensure proper sterilization/disinfection of instruments and equipment as applicable.
- Follow biomedical waste segregation and disposal procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the nursing/procedure areas.
- Follow clinic policies relating to patient safety, infection prevention and occupational safety.
G. Equipment & Inventory
- Ensure proper handling and safe use of medical equipment.
- Check the availability and working condition of essential nursing equipment.
- Maintain nursing consumables and report shortages to the concerned person.
- Monitor expiry dates of medicines, emergency drugs and clinical supplies.
- Maintain relevant stock/sub-stock registers where assigned.
H. Patient Communication & Counselling
- Communicate with patients and attendants politely and professionally.
- Explain basic preparation instructions for investigations and procedures.
- Provide appropriate health education as instructed by the doctor.
- Guide patients regarding medication/procedure-related instructions within the nurse's scope of practice.
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality at all times.
4. Administrative Responsibilities
- Report for duty on time and follow the assigned duty roster.
- Complete proper shift handover to the incoming nurse.
- Maintain discipline and professional conduct within the clinic.
- Participate in staff meetings, training programmes and clinical education sessions.
- Follow MACare policies, SOPs and instructions issued by the management.
- Support quality-improvement and patient-safety initiatives.
- Perform any other nursing-related duties assigned by the Nursing In-Charge, Duty Doctor or Centre Head.
5. Qualification
- GNM / B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing from a recognised institution.
- Valid registration with the applicable State Nursing Council.
- Basic computer knowledge and ability to maintain electronic/physical clinical records.
6. Experience
- Freshers may be considered, depending on the requirement.
- Experience in a hospital, clinic, OPD, emergency, diagnostic centre or multispecialty healthcare setting will be an advantage.

8. Performance Expectations
The Staff Nurse is expected to maintain high standards of patient care, clinical safety, documentation, punctuality, discipline, infection control and patient satisfaction, while contributing positively to the overall functioning and reputation of MACare Diagnostics & Polyclinic.
Pay: ₹8,086.00 - ₹42,056.07 per month
