ROLE OVERVIEW
AVP – Construction/Site head will be responsible for managing site execution of a large-scale (GW-size) Solar Ingot, Wafer, Cell manufacturing facility – including ancillary unit, factory buildings, cleanroom shells, foundations for heavy process equipment, warehouses, and administrative/support infrastructure. The role covers the full lifecycle from site development, coordination and execution of work through EPC/contractor, ensuring the built infrastructure meets process, statutory, and safety requirements within schedule and budget quality control and handover to operational team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead end-to-end construction execution for the greenfield large scale GW Integrated Ingot, Wafer and Cell manufacturing facility, covering Civil, Structural, Architectural, MEP, Facility/Utilities, Process Equipment Installation, and external infrastructure.
- Develop and execute the overall construction strategy, execution methodology, construction sequence, and site mobilization plan in line with the approved project schedule and commissioning targets.
- Provide overall leadership to civil, structural, facility, MEP, utility, process equipment installation, and finishing works, ensuring coordination across all construction disciplines.
- Drive construction activities through EPC contractors, package contractors, subcontractors, consultants, OEMs, and internal project teams, ensuring timely execution and quality compliance.
- Establish construction milestones and monitor physical progress, productivity, manpower deployment, equipment utilization, and construction performance against the approved baseline schedule.
- Coordinate closely with Planning & Controls to identify critical-path activities, construction bottlenecks, schedule slippages, and recovery measures.
- Ensure construction readiness through timely availability of approved drawings, engineering inputs, materials, equipment, work fronts, utilities, manpower, and statutory approvals.
- Lead execution of major civil and infrastructure works including site development, foundations, buildings, PEB structures, RCC structures, roads, drainage, warehouses, utility buildings, and external infrastructure.
- Oversee installation and construction of major facility and utility systems, including HVAC, electrical systems, water systems, compressed air, gases, ETP/STP/ZLD, fire protection, DG systems, substations, and other plant utilities.
- Coordinate with Process Engineering and Equipment OEMs for process equipment installation, alignment, interconnections,
commissioning readiness, and interface management.
- Establish and monitor construction productivity norms, manpower requirements, equipment deployment, and resource-loading plans.
- Ensure strict implementation of Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) requirements, approved drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs, inspection procedures, and applicable codes and standards.
- Drive EHS compliance across all construction activities, ensuring safe working practices, permit-to-work systems, contractor safety compliance, and zero-tolerance approach to major safety violations.
- Lead construction coordination meetings with EPC contractors, consultants, OEMs, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders, ensuring timely resolution of technical and execution issues.
- Manage construction interfaces between Civil, Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Facility, Process Equipment, Utilities, Fire & Safety, and Automation teams.
- Monitor construction material and equipment availability in coordination with Procurement, Stores, and Planning teams, ensuring no disruption to critical construction activities.
- Review and control contractor performance, including mobilization, manpower, productivity, quality, safety, schedule adherence, billing, claims, and contractual obligations.
- Support contract administration and commercial teams in evaluation of contractor claims, variations, additional works, rate negotiations, and change orders arising from construction activities.
- Identify construction-related risks and develop mitigation, recovery, and contingency plans for critical activities.
- Drive constructability reviews, value engineering, construction methodology optimization, and cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety, quality, or schedule.
- Ensure proper coordination for pre-commissioning, testing, trial runs, punch-point closure, system handover, and commissioning of individual plant areas and utilities.
- Establish area-wise and system-wise construction completion and handover plans, ensuring documentation, as-built drawings, test reports, inspection records, and O&M; inputs are completed.
- Lead the transition from construction completion to commissioning and commercial operations, ensuring production areas and utilities are handed over in a controlled and timely manner.
- Prepare and present weekly/monthly construction MIS, progress dashboards, manpower reports,
productivity reports, risk registers, and management updates to the Project Director/Management.
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performance construction management team, establishing accountability, reporting structures, execution standards, and performance KPIs.
- Coordinate with Statutory, Legal & Liaison, Planning & Controls, Procurement, Engineering, Finance, Quality, EHS, Operations, and HR teams to ensure integrated project execution.
- Maintain strong relationships with EPC contractors, OEMs, consultants, government authorities, technology partners, and key project stakeholders.
- Ensure the project achieves safe, timely, quality-compliant, and cost-effective construction completion in accordance with the approved project objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Civil or related Engineering discipline; MBA/PGDM in Project Management or PMP certification preferred.
- 22–28 years of overall experience in large-scale construction and project execution, with significant experience in greenfield industrial/manufacturing projects.
- Proven experience in leading construction for large CAPEX projects, preferably in solar PV, semiconductor, electronics, battery, ingot-wafer, chemical, heavy engineering, or other process manufacturing facilities.
- Strong experience in managing Civil, Structural, PEB, MEP, HVAC, Electrical, Utility, Facility, Process Equipment Installation, and External Infrastructure works.
- Demonstrated experience in managing EPC contractors, PMC consultants, OEMs, package contractors, and subcontractors across multiple disciplines.
- Proven track record of delivering projects involving large construction teams, multiple contractors, complex interfaces, and aggressive project schedules.
- Solid understanding of construction planning, project controls, resource management, productivity improvement, quality management, EHS, contract administration, and commissioning readiness.
- Experience in executing greenfield projects from site mobilization and construction through mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and handover.
- Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, constructability, value engineering, contractor management, claims/variations, and cost optimization.
- Experience in coordinating with Engineering, Procurement, Planning & Controls, Statutory, Quality, EHS, Finance, Operations, and senior management.
