About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will design, manufacture, and test specialized mechanical equipment for nuclear applications. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong expertise in mechanical design, product development, and engineering validation—preferably within the nuclear industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and validate custom mechanical systems and equipment for nuclear applications.
- Design specialized mechanical devices such as fuel subassembly header locks, manipulator arms, and other handling tools used for installation, removal, and maintenance of fuel subassemblies (SAs).
- Prepare detailed engineering calculations, 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, technical specifications, and documentation.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and cost-effective.
- Oversee prototype fabrication, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and design validation—implementing improvements based on test results.
- Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes, considering performance, reliability, and nuclear safety requirements.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering codes, quality standards, and nuclear regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5–10 years of experience, preferably in the nuclear industry.
- Proven experience in the design, manufacturing, and testing of mechanical systems or custom-engineered equipment.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, machine design, and materials engineering.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent CAD software.
- Experience preparing engineering drawings, GD&T;, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience working in highly regulated engineering environments is highly desirable.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with nuclear fuel handling equipment or remote handling systems.
- Exposure to mechanical systems used in nuclear reactors, hot cells, or other high-radiation environments.
- Familiarity with prototype development, design validation, and engineering testing.
- Knowledge of nuclear safety standards and engineering quality systems.
