Role Overview
The primary responsibility of this role is to design and develop innovative products while driving associated research and development (R&D;) initiatives. In this capacity, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that products, applications, and machines are designed and delivered in accordance with the highest quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and development of mechanical sub-assemblies & parts, considering manufacturing processes in metals (sheet metal, machining, casting, etc.) along with plastics (FRP, vacuum forming, etc.)
- Standard bought-out part selection such as bearings, gearboxes, motors, hardware, etc.
- 2D drawings, 3D parts & assembly in SolidWorks (analysis experience is a plus)
- Ensuring compliance with relevant standards (CE, ISO, ASME)
- Participate in cross-functional engineering tasks and solving technical and quality issues
- Responsible for coordinating with the Supply Chain
- Vendor interaction wherever required for part development or purchasing bought-out items during the development phase
- Guide the team for prototype development & anchor the testing of the mechanisms
- Mentor & support the team for design & development activities
Preferred Qualifications
- Base qualification: Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 11-14 years of experience in Mechanical Design, Product Design and development,
preferably in the Industrial, Automobile, Robotics, Appliances or Material Handling industry.
Skills Required
- Expertise in material selection as per the application and understanding of manufacturing process limitations
- Expertise & knowledge of electromechanical design, prototype development & testing, project management, and handling multi-functional activities related to product design
- Familiarity with product development steps such as vendor interaction, stakeholder management, timely updating of the project plan, and production release documentation (BOM, GA drawings, manufacturing files)
- Knowledge of adaptive & empirical design principles and their implementation with certifications & standards such as CE, IEC
- Good experience in 2D drawings, 3D parts & assembly design along with analysis (FEA) in SolidWorks
- Robust understanding of GD&T;, DFM/DFA and cost optimization techniques for design
- Proven ability to lead, mentor and build a team of design engineers, with experience in design reviews & technical sign-offs
- Experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) and managing multiple projects/timelines simultaneously
- Strong vendor negotiation and supplier development skills for new part sourcing
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills to coordinate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, quality, supply chain, electronics)
- Creative thinker with a problem-solving attitude and a strong sense of ownership
