About Bioscan ResearchBioscan Research is a medical technology company developing photonics- and data science-based medical devices for point-of-care diagnosis and monitoring. Its flagship product, CEREBO, is a handheld NIRS-based system designed to support rapid, non-invasive assessment of intracranial bleeding. Bioscan is developing next-generation products integrating optics, electronics, embedded systems, firmware, software, AI/ML and connected medical-device technologies.
Role OverviewWe are looking for a Systems Engineer – Product Integration & Verification to support the integration of Bioscan's multidisciplinary engineering teams into a cohesive, reliable and validated medical-device system. The role will sit at the intersection of hardware, firmware, software, AI, optics and mechanical engineering and will focus on system-level requirements, interfaces, dependencies, change-impact assessment, integration testing, verification and product configuration.
The ideal candidate is a technically curious and highly organized engineer who enjoys understanding how different subsystems interact and has a strong interest in learning across engineering disciplines. This is an excellent prospect for an engineer with 2–3 years of experience to develop into a systems engineering leader.
Key Responsibilities1.
System
Integration & Coordination
- Support integration of hardware, firmware, software, AI/ML, optics and mechanical subsystems into complete medical-device systems.
- Maintain system architecture, block diagrams and subsystem interfaces.
- Understand dependencies between different engineering components and identify potential integration issues.
- Coordinate with individual engineering teams to resolve system-level issues.
- Participate in prototype integration and system bring-up activities.
2. Requirements & Traceability
- Maintain system-level and subsystem requirements in Bioscan's product development platform.
- Support allocation of system requirements to relevant engineering teams.
- Maintain traceability between:
User Need → System Requirement → Subsystem Requirement → Design → Test → Release
- Identify requirements affected by engineering changes.
- Ensure requirements are appropriately verified before release.
3.
Change
Impact & Dependency Management
- Support the system-level review of engineering Change Requests.
- Identify potential impact of changes across all engineering disciplines including Hardware, Firmware, Software, AI/ML, Optics, Mechanical, Risk, Testing, Production, Configuration
- Maintain a System Dependency / Interface Matrix.
- Coordinate with relevant engineers to complete impact assessments.
- Track identified actions through implementation and verification.
- Ensure that no significant change moves to release without appropriate dependency assessment.
4.
Integration
Testing & Verification
- Develop and maintain system-level integration and verification plans in collaboration with engineering teams.
- Ensure appropriate cross-functional testing is performed after subsystem changes.
- Coordinate integration test execution across Hardware, Firmware, Software, AI, Optics and Mechanical teams.
- Track test results, failures and corrective actions.
- Ensure failed tests are linked to relevant requirements, issues and changes.
- Support regression testing following significant changes.
- Maintain system verification status and identify outstanding verification gaps.
5. Risk & Safety Coordination
- Work on Risk Management with engineering and QA/RA teams to identify the impact of engineering changes on product risks.
- Ensure relevant risk controls are considered during system changes.
- Link risk controls with appropriate requirements and verification tests.
- Track verification status of system-level risk controls.
- Escalate potential safety or clinical-impact issues to the appropriate technical and regulatory teams.
6. Configuration & Release Management
- Support definition and maintenance of the complete product configuration.
- Ensure compatibility between Hardware revisions, Firmware version, Software version, AI/model version, Optical configuration, Mechanical configuration, and Device settings
- Support creation of release baselines.
- Verify that required testing, change assessments and approvals are complete before release.
- Maintain traceability of released configurations.
7. System-Level Problem Solving
- Participate in investigation of problems that involve multiple subsystems.
- Help determine whether an issue originates from Hardware, Firmware, Software, AI, Optics, Mechanical design, Interface between subsystems
- Coordinate root-cause investigations with the relevant engineering teams.
- Track corrective actions and ensure their effectiveness is verified.
8. Engineering Documentation & Reviews
- Maintain system architecture documents, interface specifications, dependency matrices and integration records.
- Support Design Reviews, Technical Reviews and Release Reviews.
- Prepare system-level status reports and technical summaries.
- Ensure engineering decisions and integration issues are appropriately documented.
- Maintain records within Bioscan's Product Development & Engineering Management System.
9. Product Development Support
- Work closely with the CTO and engineering leads during development of new products and major product changes.
- Participate in feasibility studies and prototype development.
- Support development of next-generation systems
- Develop a broad understanding of Bioscan's technologies and product architecture.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related discipline.
- 2–3 years of experience in product development, systems engineering, product integration, verification or a related engineering role.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams is highly desirable.
- Basic understanding of several of the following: Embedded Systems, AI/ML, Communication interfaces
- Understanding of system requirements, testing, verification and configuration management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to understand technical concepts outside one's primary engineering discipline.
- Good documentation and technical communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain traceability.
- Comfortable working with engineering change processes and structured workflows.
- Familiarity with medical-device development and standards such as ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304 or IEC 60601 is desirable but not mandatory.
- Strong willingness to learn and develop expertise across multiple engineering disciplines.
