About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior 3D CAD Piping Designer to support the design and development of customized modular and skid-mounted process systems.
The role will be responsible for 3D modelling of process equipment, piping, instruments and structural support systems, along with preparation of fabrication drawings, piping isometrics, orthographic drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
The position will work closely with Process Engineers, Project Engineers, vendors and fabrication teams to develop constructible and accurate process-system designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed 3D models of complete process systems using Autodesk Plant 3D.
- Model process equipment, instruments, process piping and utility piping.
- Work with Process/Project Engineers to understand P&IDs;, PFDs and equipment specifications.
- Create and incorporate equipment and instrument models using standard libraries, vendor models or custom components.
- Develop preliminary 3D models of structural steel support skids and equipment support structures.
- Route and model interconnecting process and utility piping.
- Prepare 2D piping fabrication drawings, including orthographic and isometric drawings.
- Prepare structural steel layout drawings and fabrication details where required.
- Generate BOMs from 3D models for procurement and fabrication.
- Prepare module plans, elevations, overall dimensions and tie-point drawings.
- Create piping spool/isometric drawings for fabrication.
- Coordinate with Process Engineers and fabrication shops to resolve design and fabrication issues.
- Incorporate customer/fabrication changes into the design.
- Review fabricated systems and prepare as-built models and drawings.
- Support CAD administration activities, including project templates,
pipe specifications and catalogues.
Required Technical Skills Piping Design & 3D Modelling
- Solid experience in 3D piping design and modelling.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with Autodesk Plant 3D.
- Strong understanding of piping layouts, equipment arrangement and piping routing.
- Experience in developing fabrication-ready piping drawings.
- Experience working with imperial dimensions.
- Knowledge of ANSI B31.3 and/or PIP Piping Standards is required.
Structural Steel
- Minimum 5 years of experience in preliminary/rough structural steel design and 3D modelling.
- Experience should preferably involve equipment support steel structures, rather than only pipe-rack design.
- Experience with structural steel detailing will be an added advantage.
Industry Experience Experience in the following industries is preferred/required:
- Chemical
- Pharmaceutical
- Petrochemical
- Process industry / similar engineering environments
Candidates should be familiar with process equipment and instrumentation commonly used in chemical/process plants.

Mandatory / Core

- CAESAR II or similar pipe stress analysis software
- Smart P&IDs;
- Other relevant 3D CAD/piping design software
Candidates with strong piping and structural steel design experience in other CAD platforms may also be considered if they demonstrate strong overall 3D CAD capability. Education & Experience
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in piping design and 3D modelling.
- Minimum 5 years of Autodesk Plant 3D experience.
- Minimum 5 years of structural steel support design and 3D modelling experience.

- Good understanding of process plant equipment and instrumentation.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs;, PFDs and equipment/instrument specification sheets.
- Strong understanding of piping fabrication requirements.
- Good dimensional and engineering calculation skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot design and fabrication issues.
- Strong attention to detail and drawing accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively with engineers, designers, vendors and fabrication teams.
Communication Skills
- Good written and spoken English communication skills.
- Ability to understand and communicate project requirements with customers, engineers and designers.
- Ability to coordinate with vendors and obtain component details and drawings.

Work Environment The position is primarily based in the Mumbai office, with occasional visits to company or vendor workshops for tracking fabrication progress and inspecting structural steel fabrication for quality, dimensions and design correctness.
