Role Overview
This is a high-ownership, high-impact role for a legally sharp, commercially minded, and self-driven legal skilled with a genuine interest in the D2C health and wellness space. The role spans the full spectrum of legal work at a fast-growing consumer health company from reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements and celebrity endorsement contracts to managing consumer disputes, regulatory compliance, IP protection, and litigation tracking. The ideal candidate is someone who has worked in a startup or D2C environment — understands the pace, ambiguity, and breadth that comes with it and can operate independently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Contract Review and Negotiation - Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of commercial
agreements such as Technology and SaaS agreements, Influencer and content creator agreements, Celebrity endorsement agreements, Employment Agreements etc.
- Regulatory and Advertising Compliance- Advise the business on compliance with applicable
regulatory, advertising and marketing regulations.
- Dispute Management - Manage and respond to complaints, regulatory notices, legal notices,
consumer complaints, and consumer forum proceedings.
- Intellectual Property - Manage the company's IP portfolio - including, Trademark filing,
prosecution, and renewal, Monitoring and identifying potential trademark infringement and passing off.
- . Litigation and Dispute Tracking - Maintain and update a comprehensive litigation tracker -
covering all active and potential disputes including consumer forum proceedings,
civil suits,
regulatory proceedings, arbitrations, and IP disputes. Coordinate with external litigation counsel.
- Legal Function Building - Contribute to building the company's legal function.
Mandatory
- LLB from a recognised Indian law school
- 3 to 4 years of Post Qualification Experience — in a law firm, in-house legal team, or a combination of both.
- Demonstrated experience in independently reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial agreements across multiple agreement types.
- Working knowledge of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 - CCPA guidelines, consumer dispute management, and forum proceedings.
- Working knowledge of advertising and marketing compliance - ASCI Code, FSS Advertising
Regulations, and Drugs and Magic Remedies Act.
- Familiarity with IP law — trademarks, copyright, and passing off - in a commercial context.
Strongly Preferred
- In-house experience at a startup — particularly a D2C health, wellness, beauty, or consumer goods company.
- Experience in a company operating in a regulated health or pharmaceutical adjacency -
understanding of Telemedicine Guidelines, FSSAI, and Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
- Exposure to influencer and celebrity endorsement.
- Experience working with founders and senior business stakeholders — comfortable giving clear,
actionable legal advice under time pressure.
Legal Skills
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills — able to produce clear, precise, and commercially sound documents independently.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex regulatory frameworks — including advertising regulations, data protection law, and consumer protection law.
- Strong research skills — able to quickly get up to speed on unfamiliar legal areas and produce reliable, practical advice.
- Attention to detail — particularly in contract review — identifying issues that others may miss
