The Registered Nurse (RN) provides protected, compassionate, and high-quality nursing care to patients in accordance with established clinical standards, facility policies, and applicable state and federal regulations. The RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, developing and implementing individualized care plans, administering medications and treatments, monitoring patient outcomes, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and continuously monitor changes in patient condition.
- Develop, implement, and update individualized nursing care plans.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, treatments, and other prescribed interventions safely and accurately.
- Monitor vital signs, laboratory results, symptoms, and patient responses to treatment.
- Identify changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to physicians and other appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Provide direct nursing care in accordance with physician orders, facility protocols, and evidence-based nursing practices.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation in the patient's medical record.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, discharge instructions, and ongoing care needs.
- Coordinate care with physicians, LPNs/LVNs, CNAs, therapists, case managers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and initiate necessary nursing interventions.
- Follow infection prevention, patient safety, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements.
- Properly operate and monitor medical equipment within the RN's training and scope of practice.
- Provide supervision and delegation to nursing support staff when appropriate.
- Maintain professional communication and provide respectful, patient-centered care.
- Follow all facility and agency policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
Qualifications
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice or applicable Nurse Licensure Compact privilege.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current BLS certification.
- ACLS, PALS, or other specialty certifications may be required depending on the clinical assignment.
- Previous clinical experience preferred; specialty experience may be required for certain assignments.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively and professionally within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Work Settings
RNs may be assigned to hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers, long-term care facilities, outpatient centers, ambulatory surgery centers, behavioral health facilities, clinics, and other healthcare environments based on experience, credentials, and facility requirements.
