Dehradun

Location: Dehradun, Uttarakhand

Company: MyntOptics

Role Type: Full-time

MyntOptics is looking for an Opto-Mechanical Engineer to support the mechanical design, analysis, prototyping, assembly, testing, and production readiness of optical and imaging systems.

This role is for someone who can work closely with optical engineers to convert optical designs, imaging lenses, camera modules, illumination systems, and sensor-based systems into practical, stable, manufacturable mechanical hardware.

Role ObjectiveThe objective of this role is to support the mechanical side of optical system development — including lens housings, optical mounts, sensor mounts, fixtures, alignment mechanisms, test setups, drawings, prototypes, tolerance control, and production-ready assemblies.

The selected candidate will help ensure that optical systems are not only designed correctly, but also packaged, mounted, aligned, assembled, analyzed, tested, and manufactured in a practical and reliable way.

A key part of this role will be understanding how mechanical design choices affect optical performance — including spacing, focus, tilt, decenter, stiffness, thermal expansion, vibration, and alignment stability.

Responsibilities

- Design opto-mechanical parts, lens housings, lens barrels, mounts, brackets, fixtures, sensor mounts, camera mounts, and optical assemblies.
- Support mechanical packaging of imaging lenses, cameras, sensors, illumination systems, filters, and optical modules.
- Work with optical engineers to maintain critical optical parameters such as spacing, centering, tilt, decenter, focus, stability, and repeatability.
- Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
- Apply GD&T;, tolerance stack-up, DFM, DFA, and practical manufacturing considerations for precision mechanical assemblies.
- Design fixtures for optical testing, alignment, focusing, assembly, inspection, and prototype validation.
- Perform or support structural, thermal, and finite element analysis — FEA — of optical mounts, lens housings,

fixtures, and assemblies.
- Evaluate the effect of stiffness, deformation, thermal expansion, vibration, and mounting conditions on optical alignment and system performance.
- Design opto-mechanical hardware to maintain mechanical integrity and optical alignment across assembly, testing, transport, and operating conditions.
- Support material selection considering stiffness, weight, machinability, thermal expansion, surface finish, coating, stability, and environmental constraints.
- Support stray light control through mechanical features such as baffles, apertures, blackened surfaces, internal geometry, and housing design.
- Support prototype development using 3D printing, machining, sheet metal, and vendor-fabricated parts.
- Assemble, measure, test, debug, and iterate prototypes alongside optical, electronics, and systems engineers.
- Work with vendors for fabrication, inspection, surface finish, coating, anodizing, part revision, and production feedback.
- Maintain transparent documentation of design decisions, dimensions, tolerances, measurements, issues, simulations, and revisions.

Desired Background

- Mechanical engineering, mechatronics, production engineering, instrumentation, or related field.
- Strong CAD proficiency using SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, Fusion 360, Inventor, or similar tools.
- Experience designing mechanical parts, assemblies, fixtures, mounts, enclosures, and engineering drawings.
- Understanding of tolerances, GD&T;, materials, manufacturing processes, fits, fasteners, and assembly methods.
- Hands-on interest in prototyping, measurement, assembly, testing, and design iteration.
- Ability to work closely with optical, electronics,

manufacturing, and vendor teams.

Good to Have

- Experience with optical systems, imaging systems, cameras, lenses, sensor modules, or precision assemblies.
- Exposure to lens mounts, camera housings, optical alignment, focusing mechanisms, optical test setups, or precision fixtures.
- Experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, Abaqus, COMSOL, Fusion Simulation, or similar tools.
- Understanding of structural analysis, thermal analysis, thermal expansion, stress, deformation, vibration, shock, and environmental effects in precision assemblies.
- Experience with 3D printing, CNC machining, sheet metal, anodizing, black coatings, surface finishes, or precision fabrication.
- Understanding of baffles, apertures, stray light control, optical cleanliness, sealing, and mechanical packaging of optical systems.
- Familiarity with optical design tools such as Zemax OpticStudio is a plus, but not mandatory.

Who Should ApplyThis role may be suitable for:

- A mechanical design engineer interested in optics, imaging, cameras, and precision systems.
- A junior engineer with strong CAD skills and hands-on prototyping ability.
- A mid-level engineer with experience in fixtures, assemblies, drawings, tolerances, FEA, and precision mechanical design.
- An experienced engineer who can help build opto-mechanical design capability at MyntOptics.

Why Join MyntOpticsMyntOptics is building deep-tech optical engineering capability to support the next generation of deep-tech companies in India.

This role offers the opportunity to work on real optical and imaging systems, support cutting-edge product development, and contribute to the development of practical, manufacturable optical hardware from Dehradun.
