Lead Software Engineer

Summary: The Lead Software Engineer designs, develops, writes, modifies and implements software solutions consisting of applications and/or components. Write a large amount of code, design, communicate ideas to the team, implement and ultimately be able to step in and handle any component or the entire life cycle of the process.

Responsibilities

- Develop and/or provide software solutions to the business in accordance with established specifications, and considerate of IT priorities, follow a process like the following:

- Participate in requirements gathering

- Analyse technical requirements and help determine feasibility

- Work with Business team, Project managers, Stakeholders, and other team members to design and recommend solutions

- Follow work instructions, procedures and established standards in coding and delivering the identified solution on time and on budget

- Document and test the delivered solution, and assist with end user training as required

- Maintain the delivered solution per business requirements

- Enhance existing systems by analysing business objectives, preparing an action plan and identifying areas for modification and improvement

- Maintain existing software systems by identifying and correcting software defects

- Be available outside of normal working hours when required to troubleshoot and update mission critical applications

- Create technical specifications and test plans

- Consult closely with team and business management related to projects, milestones & tasks

- Consult colleagues concerning maintenance and performance of software systems

- Developing software using Java, Spring Framework, Hibernate, MySQL, SmartGWT framework

- Good hands-on experience in Git, AWS

Relationships/Contacts

- Reports directly to the Manager, Application Development.

- Works with employees at all levels of the organization.

- This position does not have any direct reports.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in computer science/engineering.

Experience





A minimum of 8 years related experience developing software in a business production setting.

Technical Knowledge and/or Abilities

- Desire for career growth to include software product and team management.

- Experience with object-oriented programming in Java.

- Experience with Java Frameworks such as Spring Framework and Hibernate/JPA, as well as Servlet containers like Tomcat, Jetty.

- Proficiency with Java builds tools such as Maven and Gradle.

- Proficiency with Git.

- Experience utilizing Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEs.

- Experience using a SQL database engine and accessing data via JDBC, as well as writing SQL.

- Solid understanding of object, component, and service-oriented design principles.

- Experience with GWT and specifically SmartGWT frameworks, SmartGWT with enterprise level features preferred. Both client and server-side development experience a plus.

- Experience with Docker containers

- Experience integrating multiple software applications using IPC methods and web services.

- Ability to lead a project development team that utilizes onshore and offshore resources.

Preferred but not required:

- Experience contributing to software packages sold to external customers, including responding to input from customers.

- Understanding of formal software development methodologies, preferably agile.

- Experience with public cloud vendor (AWS)
