Introduction

Metromax is looking for an experienced Lead Developer to join a Customer Service CORE (CS CORE) engineering team within a global eCommerce technology environment.

The CS CORE team is responsible for maintaining, improving, and modernizing the core applications and services that power Customer Service operations across the organization.

This includes

- An in-house Customer Service Order Management Portal
- Customer Service microservices and APIs
- Integrations supporting:
- Zendesk
- Chatbot platforms
- AI-powered Customer Service applications
- Other Customer Service technologies and integrations

As a Lead Developer, you will provide hands-on technical leadership while contributing to architecture, development, modernization, and engineering excellence across the CS CORE technology landscape.

You will work closely with developers, DevOps engineers, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to design and deliver scalable, maintainable, secure, and highly reliable solutions supporting Customer Service operations globally.

The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering expertise with proven technical leadership experience and is comfortable taking ownership of complex systems, architectural decisions, production reliability, and engineering outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture

- Provide technical leadership and guidance to developers within the CS CORE team.
- Take ownership of technical decisions and contribute to the architectural direction of Customer Service systems.
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable, resilient, and high-performance services and APIs.
- Drive modernization of legacy applications and migration toward modern, cloud-native architectures.
- Contribute to breaking down monolithic applications into domain-oriented microservices.
- Evaluate technical options and make pragmatic decisions balancing scalability, maintainability, technical debt, business continuity, and delivery timelines.
- Lead and contribute to architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and code reviews.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, and opportunities for continuous improvement.

Software Development

- Develop and maintain Customer Service applications and domain microservices.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js.
- Build and maintain frontend functionality using Vue.js and Vuetify.
- Design and maintain RESTful APIs consumed by:
- AI-powered Customer Service applications
- Chatbot platforms
- Zendesk integrations
- Other internal and external services




- Ensure solutions are scalable, testable, maintainable, secure, and performant.
- Remain hands-on with development while providing technical direction to the wider engineering team.

Production Reliability & Operations

- Take ownership of system reliability, performance, scalability, and operational quality.
- Lead investigation and resolution of complex production incidents.
- Drive root cause analysis and ensure appropriate corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
- Identify and address performance bottlenecks, reliability issues, and technical risks.
- Improve system observability, monitoring, logging, and alerting using tools such as Datadog.
- Work closely with DevOps engineers to improve CI/CD, monitoring, deployment, and operational practices.

- Work closely with Product Owners and stakeholders to translate business and operational requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Collaborate with DevOps, Product, and other engineering teams.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Act as a strong technical point of contact for the CS CORE domain.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7+ years of professional software development experience, including experience in a technical leadership capacity.
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- JavaScript / TypeScript
- Node.js
- Vue.js
- REST APIs
- Microservices architecture
- Solid experience with Vue 3 and Vuetify.
- Strong understanding of modern frontend development practices.




- Proven experience designing and building scalable backend services.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Strong experience with:
- Docker
- Kubernetes
- CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with:
- Elasticsearch
- Event-driven systems
- Asynchronous architectures
- Distributed systems
- Strong expertise in:
- Debugging
- Production incident resolution
- Root cause analysis

- Active experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as:

- Or similar tools
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Fluent in English.
