Job Title: Head of IT
Role Summary The Head of IT is the senior-most technology leadership role in the organization, with full accountability for IT strategy, governance, infrastructure, information security, and day-to-day IT operations across retail store operations, the corporate office, and e-commerce. The role owns enterprise architecture, data governance, and information security outcomes for the organization engaging specialist or consultant support where deep technical expertise is needed and owns the IT budget and vendor and partner relationships. The Head of IT leads and mentors the IT team, with IT Manager and Sr.
IT Manager reporting directly into the role, and partners closely with the leadership team to ensure technology scales in step with the organization's growth across a multi-city, multi-brand retail portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
1. IT Strategy & Leadership
- Define and own the organization's overall IT strategy, roadmap, and long-term technology vision in alignment with business objectives.
- Lead, mentor, and build capability within the IT team across all locations, including direct management of Abhijeet and Kunal.
- Partner with the leadership team (CEO/COO/CFO) on technology investment decisions and report on IT performance, risk, and ROI.
- Drive digital transformation initiatives, including automation, analytics, and scalable systems for a growing multi-brand, multi-city retail portfolio.
- IT Governance, Risk & Security
- Own information security strategy, data governance policies, and enterprise risk management frameworks, bringing in specialist support for deep technical audits or architecture reviews where needed.
- Ensure organization-wide compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023, including data handling, consent, and breach-notification practices.
- Own PCI-DSS and payment security compliance across all POS and payment touchpoints.
- Oversee IT policies, SOPs, and best-practice governance across the organization, ensuring compliance with statutory/regulatory requirements.
- Establish business continuity, disaster recovery, and enterprise-wide data security and backup strategies.
- Audit IT systems and controls organization-wide, and present outcomes and recommendations to leadership.
- Infrastructure & Enterprise Architecture
- Own enterprise architecture decisions across the organization's core platforms including Olavi, Gofrugal, and ODOO (ERP/POS) and Shopify (e-commerce) and connected SaaS systems.
- Own end-to-end IT infrastructure across retail stores, warehouses, and the corporate office.
- Own recent-store IT readiness — systems, connectivity,
and POS fully tested and live ahead of each store opening — and store uptime against agreed SLAs.
- Ensure retail and e-commerce systems remain functional, secure, and scalable as the business expands.
- Drive change management and adoption of new technologies across stores, warehouses, and the corporate office.
- Day-to-Day IT Operations & Team Management
- Own automated processes and API integrations across systems.
- Own application and platform management, including updates and upgrades.
- Own software management, helpdesk operations, and password and infrastructure administration.
- Manage, audit, and continuously improve day-to-day IT workflows across the organization.
- Directly manage IT Managers, building a team that can go deep on technical problems, multitask across priorities, and deliver reliably.
- Build and nurture talent within the IT team, and communicate clearly and confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Budget & Vendor Management
- Own the IT budget, capital planning, and cost optimization across infrastructure, software licensing, and vendor contracts.
- Manage relationships with strategic technology vendors, partners, and service providers, including contract negotiations and SLAs.
- Evaluate and procure new technology platforms in line with commercial and operational priorities.
- Cross-functional Leadership
- Partner closely with Retail, Merchandising, E-commerce, Finance, and Brand teams to ensure technology supports business priorities.
- Manage external agencies and technology partners on behalf of the organization.
- Build and lead a high-performing, multi-location IT team.
- Success Measures
- Store uptime: POS, network, and connectivity uptime across stores against agreed SLA targets.
- New store go-live: systems tested and fully operational ahead of each store's opening date, with zero critical issues at launch.
- Helpdesk performance: ticket first-response and resolution times against agreed SLAs.
- Security & compliance: DPDP Act 2023 and PCI-DSS compliance maintained, with no major security or data incidents.
- IT budget discipline: spend against budget, and measurable cost optimization on infrastructure, licensing, and vendor contracts.
• Team development: retention, capability growth,
and performance of direct reports and the wider IT team.
Skills & Experience
- This role carries full accountability for enterprise architecture, information security, and data governance — whether built and run in-house or directed through specialist/consultant support. We're looking for someone who can own that scope end-to-end, not someone who has necessarily led all of it single-handedly before.
- Progressive IT experience with demonstrated ownership of infrastructure, security, and systems in a leadership capacity;
experience across multi-location or multi-brand operations is a strong plus.
- Strong strategic and business acumen, with a proven track record of aligning IT strategy with organizational growth.
- Working knowledge of retail technology ecosystems, including ERP, POS, and e-commerce platforms (we run Olavi, Gofrugal, Odoo, and Shopify).
Additional
SaaS platforms such as Tally Prime and self-hosted apps.
- Proven experience leading and scaling IT teams, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management — someone who can go deep technically and also build and nurture people.
- Comfort owning enterprise architecture, network infrastructure, information security, and data governance outcomes, and knowing when to bring in specialist support.
- Demonstrated experience managing IT budgets, vendor contracts, and technology procurement.
- Familiarity with the DPDP Act, 2023 and PCI-DSS/payment security requirements, or a track record of getting up to speed quickly on regulatory frameworks.
- Expertise in O365, Tally, SQL/databases, systems integration (POS, e-commerce, ERP), and enterprise reporting/analytics.
- Experience handling multi-location, pan-India (or multi-country) IT set-ups is preferred but not mandatory.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to present to and advise senior leadership.
