Role Description The Freelancer Japanese Interpreter will provide high-quality interpretation between Japanese and English for client meetings, calls, events, and documentation reviews. Day-to-day tasks include attending scheduled sessions (onsite and online), accurately conveying spoken and sometimes written content, clarifying meaning and context when needed, and maintaining confidentiality of client information.

The role also involves preparing for assignments by reviewing materials in advance, conducting brief terminology research, and coordinating with project managers on schedules and client requirements. This is a part-time, hybrid role based in Delhi, India,



with a mix of onsite work at client or company locations and some work-from-home flexibility.

Qualifications

- Strong Japanese–English language proficiency, including fluency in speaking, listening, reading, and comprehension.
- Demonstrated experience in consecutive or simultaneous interpretation, ideally in corporate, technical, or media settings.
- Solid understanding of Japanese and English cultural nuances to ensure accurate and context-sensitive communication.
- Ability to prepare for assignments through focused research on terminology, subject matter, and client-specific requirements.
- Professional communication skills, including clear articulation, active listening, and concise note-taking during sessions.
- Comfort working in a hybrid environment, managing part-time schedules, and collaborating with remote and onsite teams.
- Prior experience with translation or localization, especially for business, technical, or media content, is an advantage.
- Relevant certification or formal training in Japanese language or interpretation is preferred; a solid portfolio of prior work is beneficial.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, manage multiple assignments, and deliver accurate work under time constraints.
