Position Open EMS Head for a Pack & BESS Manufacturing and Project

Reports to - Plant Head

Experience - 20+ yrs (10+ yrs in EMS) Scale handled up to 5 GWh BESS

Qualification - B.E./B.Tech (Reputed University)

Role Purpose

Waaree Energy Storage Solutions Pvt. Ltd. is setting up a large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and battery pack manufacturing facility at Rola, Valsad, Gujarat. We are hiring an EMS Head to build, lead, and own the entire Energy Management System (EMS) function from factory-level EMS infrastructure and 5 MWh BESS container testing (EMS + PCS + IDT + Grid interface) to the field-level installation and commissioning of EMS integrated with BESS, PCS, IDT, the grid, customer SCADA systems etc.at project sites across India and abroad.

This is a hands-on leadership role for a senior EMS professional who has driven EMS design, engineering, testing, and commissioning on large BESS programs, and who can build a competent EMS team from the ground up while being the final technical authority on EMS controller and switchgear selection for the plant & project sites.

1. Factory-Level EMS Setup (BESS & Pack Manufacturing)

- Drive the complete design, engineering, and setup of the EMS section within the BESS and pack manufacturing factory from concept, layout, logics, cabling and network architecture to go-live.
- Define EMS architecture covering the Battery Management System (BMS) interface, Power Conversion System (PCS), Inverter Duty Transformer (IDT), plant SCADA/HMI, protection relays, and grid interconnection points.
- Own EMS-related capex planning, vendor evaluation, technical specifications and procurement support for EMS controllers, switchgear, network/communication hardware and protection systems.
- Establish EMS standard operating procedures (SOPs), test protocols, and documentation (FAT/SAT formats, IO lists, SLDs, logic diagrams) for the factory.

2. 5 MWh BESS Container Testing

- Lead factory testing of 5 MWh BESS containers with the EMS facility, ensuring correct integration and functional performance.
- Define and execute test cases covering EMS control logic, power scheduling, State of Charge (SoC)/State of Health (SoH) management, protection coordination, ride-through behavior and communication with PCS/BMS/grid.
- Validate EMS response under grid disturbance scenarios (LVRT, frequency response,



reactive power support) as applicable to the project's grid code.
- Ensure test results, deviations, and NCRs are documented and closed prior to dispatching BESS containers to site.

3. Site-Level Installation & Commissioning

- Lead installation and commissioning of the EMS at project sites, integrating BESS + PCS +IDT + Grid + Customer SCADA system etc. into a single, coordinated control architecture.
- Configure and commission EMS-to-SCADA communication (protocol mapping, datapoints, alarms, setpoints) as per customer/utility requirements.
- Coordinate with EPC, PCS OEMs, transformer vendors, protection engineers, and the customer's O&M;/SCADA team during site commissioning.
- Support grid connectivity approvals, protection coordination studies, and interconnection testing with the utility/discom as required.
- Own site EMS punch-list closure, performance testing, and handover documentation.

4. Team Building & Development

- Build and develop a competent factory-level EMS team hiring, training, and mentoring engineers across design, testing, and commissioning functions.
- Create career development plans, technical training modules, and competency matrices for the EMS team.
- Establish a solid safety and quality culture within the EMS function, aligned with plant EHS policies.

5. Engineering Authority — EMS Controllers & Switchgear

- Own technical selection of EMS controllers (PLC/RTU/industrial PC based), HMI/SCADA platforms, and communication gateways suited for BESS applications.
- Own technical selection of switchgear (LV/MV panels, protection relays, circuit breakers, CTs/PTs) required for EMS and BESS integration, ensuring compliance with applicable IEC/UL standards and grid code requirements.
- Review and approve vendor drawings, SLDs, control philosophy documents, and interlock/protection logic.

6. Standards, Safety & Compliance

- Ensure all EMS design, testing, and commissioning activities comply with relevant IEC and UL standards,



applicable Indian grid codes (CEA/CERC/state DISCOM requirements), and customer specifications.
- Drive third-party certification and type-testing requirements for EMS/BESS systems where applicable.
- Champion cybersecurity best practices (e.g., IEC 62443) for EMS/SCADA networks.

Educational Qualification

- Graduate Engineer (B.E./B.Tech) in Electrical, Electrical & Electronics, Instrumentation, or Power Systems Engineering from a reputed/recognized university.

Experience Required

- 20+ years of total working experience in the power/energy/BESS/renewable industry.
- Minimum 10 years of dedicated, hardcore experience in the EMS (Energy Management System) domain.
- Demonstrated experience handling large-scale BESS projects up to 1-2 GWh cumulative capacity for EMS installation and commissioning.
- Proven experience integrating EMS with PCS, IDT, grid, and third-party/customer SCADA systems.
- Experience setting up an EMS function/department from scratch in a manufacturing or EPC environment preferred.
- Prior people-leadership experience has built and led a technical team of 10+ engineers.

Position Grade This role is positioned at GM / DGM level, reporting directly to the Plant Head, with full ownership of the EMS function for the BESS and pack manufacturing plant at Rola, Valsad, Gujarat.
