Job Title: Deputy General Manager (DGM) – India Operations & Production
Location: Tamilnadu, India

Reporting To: General Manager / Managing Director
Employment Type: Full-Time
Indicative Salary: INR 1,00,000 – 1,25,000 per month , commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience.
Job Summary A Steel Fabrication and Galvanising is seeking an experienced and result-oriented Deputy General Manager (DGM) – India Operations & Production to lead the overall operations of its Steel Fabrication and Hot-Dip Galvanizing Plant .
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the effective management of plant operations, production planning and execution, manpower and resource utilization, fabrication activities, galvanizing processes, quality assurance, maintenance coordination, productivity improvement and cost control. The role requires strong technical knowledge, proven leadership capability and substantial hands-on experience in steel fabrication and galvanizing operations.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Operations Management
- Lead and manage the overall day-to-day operations of the Steel Fabrication and Galvanizing Plant.
- Ensure optimum utilization of manpower, machinery, raw materials, consumables, utilities and other operational resources.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to improve plant efficiency, productivity, capacity utilization and profitability.
- Establish and monitor operational KPIs and take corrective action where performance falls below target.
- Ensure effective coordination between the Sales, Purchase, Stores, Quality, Maintenance, Production and Dispatch Departments .
- Ensure the timely execution of preventive and breakdown maintenance of all machinery and equipment in coordination with the Maintenance Department.
- Support the installation, testing, commissioning and operational integration of recent machinery and equipment.
- Control production costs through effective utilization of raw materials, manpower, utilities and other resources.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce wastage, rework, downtime and operational losses.
- Ensure compliance with approved company policies, standard operating procedures and safety requirements.
2. Production Planning & Execution
- Review and monitor daily, weekly and monthly production plans and ensure their effective execution.
- Ensure accurate production reporting and achievement of production targets within scheduled timelines.
- Monitor production performance and identify bottlenecks, capacity constraints and operational inefficiencies.
- Implement appropriate corrective actions to eliminate production delays and improve workflow.
- Continuously improve production capacity, productivity and overall operational efficiency.
- Ensure production activities are aligned with customer delivery commitments and quality requirements.
- Coordinate with relevant departments to resolve production-related customer issues promptly.
- Ensure effective production scheduling based on available capacity, manpower, machinery and material availability.
3. Fabrication Unit Management
- Supervise and control all fabrication activities, including:
- Cutting
- Drilling
- Punching
- Bending
- Welding
- Assembly
- Finishing
- Ensure all fabrication work is carried out strictly in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, quality requirements and customer expectations.
- Monitor fabrication productivity, material utilization,
process efficiency and output quality throughout the production cycle.
- Ensure proper interpretation and implementation of approved fabrication drawings and work instructions.
- Monitor welding and fabrication quality and coordinate with the Quality Department to address non-conformities.
- Minimize material wastage, rework and production losses.
- Improve fabrication methods, workflows and processes to increase productivity and reduce production costs.
- Ensure proper coordination between production, quality, maintenance and dispatch teams.
4. Galvanizing Unit Management
- Oversee and control the complete galvanizing process to ensure consistency, efficiency and product quality.
- Provide zinc consumption estimates for costing and quotation purposes based on material specifications and customer requirements.
- Ensure proper process control throughout all stages of galvanizing operations.
- Monitor zinc consumption and implement effective measures to optimize usage and minimize losses.
- Ensure appropriate process parameters are maintained to achieve required coating quality.
- Ensure coating thickness, surface finish and overall product quality comply with company standards, applicable specifications and customer requirements.
- Monitor galvanizing defects and coordinate corrective actions to reduce rejection and rework.
- Optimize production efficiency while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Ensure proper coordination between fabrication, galvanizing, quality and dispatch teams.
5. Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure effective Quality Control and Quality Assurance systems are implemented and maintained across the Fabrication and Galvanizing Units.
- Drive initiatives to achieve minimum rework, zero rejection and minimal customer complaints.
- Coordinate internal, customer and third-party inspections.
- Ensure timely closure of inspection observations and non-conformities.
- Investigate quality issues, identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor recurring defects and establish preventive measures to avoid repetition.
- Ensure continuous improvement in product quality, process capability and operational performance.
- Work closely with production and quality teams to maintain compliance with approved specifications and customer requirements.
6. Maintenance & Equipment Management
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Department to ensure the reliability and availability of production machinery and equipment.
- Monitor preventive maintenance schedules and ensure timely completion.
- Ensure prompt response and corrective action during equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
- Participate in planning the installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
- Recommend machinery upgrades, modifications and process improvements to enhance productivity and operational efficiency.
- Ensure appropriate maintenance records and equipment performance monitoring are maintained.
7. Team Leadership & Performance Management
- Lead, mentor and manage production and operations teams across both the Fabrication and Galvanizing Units.
- Ensure optimum manpower deployment based on production priorities and operational requirements.
- Establish clear responsibilities, performance expectations and accountability within the team.
- Monitor employee performance and provide appropriate coaching and technical guidance.
- Identify training and development requirements to improve technical and operational competence.
- Promote teamwork, discipline, productivity and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Maintain effective communication between management and plant-level operational teams.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) The DGM – India Operations & Production will be evaluated based on, but not limited to:

Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
- Additional qualifications or certifications in Operations Management, Production Management, Welding, Quality Management or Lean Manufacturing will be an added advantage.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 15–20 years of relevant experience in steel fabrication, manufacturing, galvanizing or related industrial operations.
- At least 5 years of experience in a senior management or leadership role , preferably as a Plant Manager, Operations Manager, Production Manager, Deputy General Manager or equivalent.
- Strong and practical experience in Steel Fabrication and Hot-Dip Galvanizing Operations is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale production teams, machinery, production planning and plant operations.
Required Technical Competencies
- Strong knowledge of steel fabrication processes and production methods.
- Practical knowledge of cutting, drilling, punching, bending, welding and assembly operations.
- Strong understanding of hot-dip galvanizing processes and quality requirements.
- Knowledge of zinc consumption estimation and control.
- Experience in production planning and capacity management.
- Strong understanding of quality control, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Knowledge of preventive and breakdown maintenance coordination.
- Ability to interpret fabrication drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong understanding of material utilization, production costing and wastage control.
- Experience in plant productivity improvement and process optimization.
