About the Role

As part of its Insights tower, a reputed tax and audit advisory firm is developing Tax Health and Filing Readiness KPI models to give practitioners, partners, and leadership real-time visibility into engagement status and risk. The BI / KPI Engineer will own the design and build of the datasets and KPI logic that feed these metrics, ensuring they can be consistently sliced by entity, jurisdiction, tax type, and time period.

Role Summary

- Build the datasets and pipelines that KPIs are calculated from.
- Structure data models so KPIs can be sliced consistently across multiple dimensions.
- Develop KPI logic for Tax Health and Filing Readiness metrics.
- Support dashboard build-out in Power BI, Tableau, or ThoughtSpot.

Key Responsibilities KPI Dataset & Pipeline Development

- Build SQL-based datasets and pipelines (leveraging dbt, Alteryx, or similar tools) that KPIs are calculated from.
- Ensure data pipelines feeding KPI models are reliable, repeatable, and well-documented.

Data Modeling for KPIs

- Structure data so KPIs can be sliced consistently by entity, jurisdiction, tax type, and time period.
- Build dimensional models (fact/dimension tables) to support flexible, multi-cut KPI reporting.

Dashboard Support

- Support development of Filing Readiness and Tax Health dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, or ThoughtSpot.
- Validate KPI outputs against source data to ensure accuracy before dashboard publication.

Collaboration

- Partner with Data Engineers to ensure upstream data (workpapers, filings, rules engine outputs) supports KPI needs.




- Work with the Insights Lead/ThoughtSpot Engineers to operationalize KPI models into Liveboards.

Required Skills & Experience

Primary Skills (Must Have)

- SQL - solid proficiency for building and validating KPI-supporting datasets
- Data pipeline/ETL familiarity - dbt, Alteryx, or similar tools
- Data modeling - structuring data so KPIs can be sliced by entity, jurisdiction, tax type, and time period consistently

Secondary Skills (Preferred)

- Dashboarding tool proficiency - Power BI, Tableau, or ThoughtSpot
- Familiarity with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse platforms
- Exposure to tax, audit, or compliance operational metrics

Functional Expertise Required

Ideal Candidate Background

- 4+ years of experience in BI/analytics engineering or data engineering with a KPI/metrics focus
- Experience building dimensional data models for multi-cut reporting
- Prior experience in compliance-heavy or operationally complex environments is a plus, but not mandatory

Target Sources

- BI/Analytics Engineers from Big 4 tax technology or advisory practices
- Data engineers/analysts from financial services, insurance, or compliance-driven organizations

Success Profile Strong SQL and data modeling discipline

Able to structure data for flexible, multi-dimensional KPI slicing

Comfortable partnering with both Data Engineers and Insights/ThoughtSpot teams

Detail-oriented with a focus on data accuracy
