Required Skills — Remote Services (90% Backend | 10% Frontend)

Robust Serverless/Event-Driven Architecture background

- Event-driven design patterns (pub/sub, choreography vs. orchestration, event sourcing, CQRS)
- AWS Lambda (function design, cold starts, concurrency, layers, versioning/aliases)
- AWS Step Functions (state machines, Express vs. Standard workflows, error handling/retries)
- Amazon EventBridge (event buses, rules, schema registry) and EventBridge Pipes (source-filter-enrich-target patterns)
- Amazon SNS/SQS (fan-out, dead-letter queues, FIFO queues, visibility timeout tuning, message deduplication)

Data & persistence

- Amazon DynamoDB (single-table design, GSIs/LSs, partition key design, streams, capacity modes)
- Amazon S3 (event notifications, lifecycle policies, versioning, storage classes)
- Idempotency and eventual consistency handling in distributed data flows
- Schema evolution and payload versioning for event contracts

Programming languages and scripting

- Java (Lambda development, Spring Cloud Function for serverless, build tooling with Maven/Gradle)
- Python for Lambda development and automation/tooling scripts
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform
- Shell/Bash scripting for automation and tooling

Architecture & integration patterns

- Microservices decomposition and bounded contexts
- API design (REST, GraphQL) via API Gateway/AppSync
- Saga pattern for distributed transactions
- Resilience patterns (circuit breaker, retry with backoff, dead-letter handling, poison-pill management)

Security, IAM & compliance

- IAM (least-privilege policies, roles, resource-based policies, permission boundaries)
- Secrets management (AWS Secrets Manager, Parameter Store)

- Encryption at rest/in transit (KMS, S3 SSE, DynamoDB encryption)
- VPC networking basics for Lambda (ENIs, private subnets, endpoints)
- Auditing and logging (CloudTrail, AWS Config)

Tooling, observability & DevOps

- Version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions
- Observability: CloudWatch Logs/Metrics/Alarms, X-Ray distributed tracing, structured logging
- Grafana Cloud for dashboards and alerting; Kibana for log search and analysis
- Local development/testing
- Cost-awareness and performance tuning (Lambda memory/timeout sizing, DynamoDB capacity planning)

AI-assisted workflows in DevOps

- Using AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot) for code generation, review, and test authoring
- AI-assisted CI/CD: automated PR summaries, code review bots, and pipeline failure triage
- Prompt-driven infrastructure and Terraform scaffolding with guardrails for review
- AI-assisted observability: anomaly detection and log/alert summarization
- Understanding limitations and risks of AI-generated code (security review, hallucination checks, license compliance)

Full DevOps ownership & on-call responsibility

- You build it, you run it: end-to-end ownership of services from design through production operation
- Participation in on-call rotation,

including incident response outside business hours
- Incident management: triage, mitigation, escalation paths, and root cause analysis
- Writing and maintaining runbooks/playbooks for known failure modes
- Blameless post-mortems and follow-up action tracking
- SLO/SLA awareness, alert tuning to reduce noise and avoid alert fatigue
- Accountability for the reliability, security, and cost of self-authored code in production

Data quality, testing & governance

- Unit, integration, and contract testing for event-driven flows
- Data validation and schema enforcement (JSON Schema, EventBridge schema registry)
- Dead-letter queue monitoring and reprocessing strategies
- Change management and auditable deployment practices

Soft skills & IT standards

- Structured problem solving, debugging distributed/asynchronous systems
- Stakeholder communication, requirements gathering
- Documentation and knowledge sharing (architecture decision records, runbooks)
- Being a positive, fun team member who contributes to team morale and a healthy team culture

BMW-specific aspects (recommended to know or adapt)

- Understanding BMW IT security & compliance requirements
- Working in regulated environments, auditable and traceable event flows
- Possible familiarity with vehicle event data, connected drive event streams

Frontend development

- AngularJS (components, services, dependency injection, routing)
- BMW Density Design System (UI component library and design tokens)
- HTML5/CSS3 and responsive UI design
- Integration with REST/GraphQL backend APIs
- Basic build tooling (npm, Webpack/Grunt) and browser debugging
