- Roles and Responsibilities for L3

Core ACI Administration & Policy Management

- Configure and administer APIC controllers, spine and leaf switches.

- Manage multi-tenancy structures, including Tenants, VRFs, and Bridge Domains (BDs).Implement Endpoint Groups (EPGs), Application Profiles, and security Contracts.
- Build and manage Layer 3 external connections (L3Out) using OSPF or BGP routing protocols

Incident Management & Advanced Troubleshooting

- Resolve complex L3/L2 network outages and high-severity tickets escalated from L1/L2 teams.
- Troubleshoot intricate issues regarding endpoint learning, contract drops, and VXLAN forwarding.
- Perform packet capture analysis and execute root cause analysis (RCA) for major incidents.
- Interface directly with vendor support like Cisco TAC for deep software bugs or hardware failures

Integration & Infrastructure Maintenance

- Integrate the ACI fabric with external network services, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Execute scheduled fabric upgrades, firmware updates, and infrastructure expansions.
- Monitor overall health scores, audit logs, and telemetry statistics via tools like Nexus Dashboard

Documentation & Collaboration

- Maintain accurate network diagrams, runbooks, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Partner with security, server, and storage teams during migrations or application rollouts.
- Deliver technical knowledge-transfer sessions and guidance to junior operations team members

First-Node Integration & Project Delivery

- Lead Greenfield Deployments: Own the initial provisioning and onboarding of the first ACI leaf or spine switches for new projects or data centre expansions.
- Define Fabric Initialization: Execute the boot sequence, register switch nodes via the APIC,

and assign precise node IDs, pod IDs, and TEP IP pools.
- Establish Core Connectivity: Configure the primary physical and logical interfaces, including VPC domains, Link Aggregation (LACP), and initial AAA/RADIUS configurations.
- Set Baseline Policies: Deploy the foundation-level fabric access policies, interface policies, and AEPs (Attachable Entity Profiles) required for downstream project scaling.

POA / MOP Validation & Approval

- Review Technical Risk: Critically evaluate engineering Plans of Action (POAs) and Methods of Procedure (MOPs) to identify single points of failure or potential production downtime.
- Enforce Rollback Compliance: Validate that every network change plan contains a verified, step-by-step fallback strategy to restore the fabric to its previous stable state.
- Approve High-Risk Changes: Act as the final technical authority to approve or reject complex ACI implementation scripts, configuration rollouts, or integration steps during Change Advisory Board (CAB) reviews.
- Enforce Post-Change Validation: Mandate and verify comprehensive pre- and post-checks—such as comparing routing tables and verifying EPG endpoints—to ensure successful implementation.

Technical Training & Knowledge Transfer

- Deliver Structured Mentorship: Conduct regular technical training sessions and deep-dives for L1 and L2 operational engineers to improve overall team capability.
- Develop Simulation Labs: Build and maintain mock ACI environments or lab topologies to train staff on troubleshooting contract drops, endpoint issues, and L3Out routing.
- Up-skill Teams on New Features: Provide targeted knowledge transfer on advanced ACI features, firmware upgrade procedures, and current hardware integrations as the fabric evolves.
- Author Training Documentation: Create clear, step-by-step training guides, troubleshooting playbooks, and video walkthroughs covering common operational scenarios.
