Position: Fabric Stock & Dyeing Supervisor
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and technically sound skilled to manage fabric stock and supervise the day-to-day operations of our Dyeing Unit. The candidate will be responsible for fabric inventory, inward and outward movement, dyeing requirements, accurate colour development, fabric processing, quality control, production planning, and timely delivery as per the requirements of the design and production teams.
The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of textile dyeing processes, fabric behaviour, colour matching, chemicals, and finishing techniques, with experience in a fashion, garment manufacturing, textile, or export-house environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the dyeing unit and ensure smooth production flow.
- Maintain accurate records of fabric stock, including fabric received, issued, dyed, processed, returned, and balance quantities.
- Coordinate with the Stores, Production, Design, Sampling, and Merchandising teams for fabric requirements and stock availability.
- Monitor fabric inward and outward movement and ensure proper tagging, identification, and storage of fabrics.
- Conduct regular physical stock checks and reconcile physical stock with records.
- Track fabric consumption, wastage, shortages, and excess quantities and report discrepancies to the concerned team.
- Handle dyeing and colour development for different types of fabrics, including silk, cotton, viscose, blends, and other fashion fabrics.
- Develop and match colours according to approved colour standards, swatches, lab dips,
and design requirements.
- Conduct trial dyeing, lab dips, shade matching, and bulk dyeing processes.
- Ensure consistency of colour, shade, tone, and fabric quality across batches.
- Monitor dye recipes, chemicals, dyes, temperature, time, pH, and other process parameters.
- Coordinate with the Design, Production, Sampling, Merchandising, and Quality teams for colour and fabric requirements.
- Ensure proper documentation of dyeing recipes, batch details, fabric quantities, and production records.
- Inspect dyed fabrics for colour variation, staining, uneven dyeing, shrinkage, bleeding, and other defects.
- Troubleshoot dyeing and finishing-related issues and implement corrective measures.
- Ensure minimum fabric wastage and optimum utilisation of dyes, chemicals, water, and other resources.
- Maintain proper inventory and coordinate with the concerned team for dyes, chemicals, and other consumables.
- Maintain proper records of dyed and undyed fabric stock and ensure that fabrics are issued against approved requirements.
- Supervise and guide dyeing unit workers/operators and allocate work according to production requirements.
- Ensure adherence to production timelines and quality standards.
- Coordinate with external processing/dyeing vendors whenever required.
- Maintain proper safety, housekeeping, and operational standards within the dyeing unit.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and applicable safety and environmental requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5–10 years of relevant experience in textile dyeing, garment manufacturing, processing, or a similar role.
- Strong practical knowledge of fabric dyeing and colour development.
- Good understanding of different fabric compositions and their dyeing behaviour.
- Experience in shade matching, lab dips, colour correction, and bulk production.
- Knowledge of dyes, chemicals, auxiliaries, and dyeing processes.
- Strong quality-control and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage workers and coordinate with multiple departments.
- Good understanding of production planning and timelines.
- Experience with designer wear, luxury fashion, export houses, or premium garment manufacturing will be an advantage.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Diploma/Degree in Textile Technology, Textile Chemistry, Textile Processing, or a related field preferred.
- Strong eye for colour and attention to detail.
- Hands-on and production-oriented approach.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Should be comfortable working closely with designers and production teams.
