Job Title: Accountant

1. Purpose of the Role
Nitori India Private Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nitori Holdings Co., Ltd. (Japan), it is expanding its retail footprint in India with vision of opening multiple store in India and spreading all over India in coming years. Company is looking for robust Accounting staff with good hand in taxation matter to strengthen our in-house tax function, reduce reliance on external consultants for routine filings, and serve as the primary liaison for tax authorities and audit firms.
2. Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Taxation Reporting
- Maintain accurate books of accounts in the ERP/accounting system. Manage day-to-day accounting operations, month-end closing, and account reconciliations.
- Reconcile bank accounts, vendors, customers, and general ledger balances.
- Prepare schedules and supporting documents for statutory audits.
- Independently handle GST compliances, including return filing, reconciliations, assessments, and statutory notices.
- Prepare and file GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and other applicable GST returns.
- Perform monthly reconciliation of GSTR-2B with purchase register.
- Handle GST registrations, amendments, LUT, refunds, and other GST-related compliances.
- Respond to GST notices and coordinate assessments with tax authorities.
- Ensure timely compliance with GST provisions and maintain proper documentation.
- Compute TDS liability under applicable sections of the Income-tax Act.
- Prepare and file quarterly TDS returns.
- Issue Form 16 and Form 16A within statutory timelines.
- Handle lower deduction certificates, notices, and TDS assessments where applicable.
- Manage TDS compliances, including deduction, deposit, return filing, reconciliations, Form 16/16A issuance, and statutory notices.
- Review corporate tax computations and reconciliations, coordinate with external tax consultants for return filing, and handle tax assessments and departmental queries.
- Act as the primary point of contact with GST and Income Tax authorities, statutory auditors, tax auditors, and external consultants.
- Prepare schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documents for statutory audits and tax assessments.
- Monitor statutory due dates and ensure timely compliance with applicable tax and regulatory requirements.
- Identify process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and support the development of an efficient in-house taxation function to reduce reliance on external consultants.
3. Candidate Profile Criteria Required:
Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in accounting, taxation, and statutory compliance with the ability to independently handle accounting functions.
Tax Expertise: Strong hands-on experience in GST and TDS compliances, including return filing, reconciliations, assessments, and statutory notices. Experience in reviewing corporate tax computations, supporting tax audits, and coordinating with tax consultants. Prior liaison with GST and Income Tax authorities is preferred.
Accounting Skills:
Sound knowledge of accounting principles, month-end closing, ledger scrutiny, reconciliations, and preparation of audit schedules.
Systems & Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, etc.) and experience working with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or Tally.
Business Exposure: Experience in the retail/e-commerce sector is preferred. Exposure to inventory accounting, import/export transactions, and inter-company transactions will be an added advantage.
Soft Skills: Detail-oriented, analytical, and self-driven with the ability to work independently. Strong communication skills with experience coordinating with auditors, consultants, and government authorities. Process improvement mindset and strong ownership of responsibilities.
Note: Formal accounting qualifications (CA / CA Inter / M.Com) are not mandatory. We give priority to practical, hands-on tax experience and the ability to independently manage the tax function of a mid-sized retail operation.
