AS/400 Technical Consultant

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced AS/400 Consultant with strong expertise in application development, enhancements, production support, troubleshooting, and maintenance. The candidate should have a thorough understanding of AS/400 applications and be capable of diagnosing and resolving technical issues, performing root cause analysis, and implementing appropriate fixes and enhancements. The role will also involve ensuring the stability, availability, and smooth operation of business-critical AS/400 applications.

Key Responsibilities

· Analyze the existing IBM i / AS/400 backend system used for managing customer/account information.

· Design and implement integrations between AS/400 and modern web/cloud applications.

· Work with RPG/RPGLE, CL, DB2 for i and SQL to access and exchange account, billing and payment data.

· Develop or support integrations using REST/SOAP APIs, database interfaces, SFTP, files or batch processes.

· Perform data mapping, validation and reconciliation between AS/400 and external applications.

· Troubleshoot integration, database, batch processing and production issues.





· Work closely with client and application teams to understand existing business logic and recommend suitable integration approaches.

· Prepare technical documentation and provide implementation/support assistance.

· Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and business teams.

· Ability to work in an SLA-driven production support environment.

· Strong ownership of incidents, from identification through resolution.

· Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

· Strong hands-on experience with IBM i / AS/400, RPG/RPGLE, and DB2.

· Experience integrating AS/400 applications with external or contemporary applications.

· Good understanding of APIs, SQL, batch processing, and file-based integrations.

· Ability to analyze complex issues, identify root causes, and provide effective technical solutions.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field.
