What You’ll Be Doing (position summary): The Production Support Team Lead is accountable for the delivery, reliability, and ongoing operations of the xTrader platform, leading the regional Production Support team that sustains this Tier 1, mission critical derivatives trading system for global trading desks. This role owns incident and problem management, service continuity, and the execution of operational standards and business requirements, including 24/7/365 on call coverage for critical issues, and serves as the senior point of escalation and central point of contact for all production matters. The incumbent manages the team, sets operational direction, mentors and develops team members, and drives a culture of stability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence. How You’ll Succeed (responsibilities): Operational Support and Service Reliability:Lead the transition from reactive support to a proactive, detection first operating model by defining and governing monitoring, alerting, and observability standards for xTrader. Own incident, problem, and major incident management as the senior production escalation point to ensure timely resolution, effective stakeholder communication, and strong root cause analysis. Ensure productive offshore support coverage outside core business hours, including smooth and timely completion of overnight batches and scheduled processes ahead of the trading day.
Plan and execute Service Continuity Tests and ongoing health checks across the xTrader estate to validate platform resilience and operational readiness. Platform Stability and Continuous Improvement:Coach the team to build monitoring enhancements out of every incident so recurring issues are detected earlier and addressed proactively. Work closely with Development teams to feed operational insight into platform enhancements that improve stability, supportability, and observability. Drive continuous improvement in support processes, operational controls, and production readiness practices to strengthen service reliability. Maintain a strong focus on platform integrity to protect xTrader’s role as the authoritative book of record and golden source for downstream consumers. Service Governance and Stakeholder Management:Ensure compliance with SLAs, KPIs, regulatory obligations, and audit requirements through disciplined operational management and effective controls. Maintain clear and consistent communication with trading desks and key stakeholders regarding incidents, service risks, recovery status, and operational priorities. Coordinate across global teams and time zones to support front office continuity in a live, time sensitive trading environment. Act as the central production contact for business and technology stakeholders on critical issues, service continuity matters, and operational escalations. People Management:Set appropriate context when assigning work to ensure that individuals’ roles support the achievement of the business unit’s priorities and CIBC’s overall goals. Build team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as job shadowing, special projects, and training. Manage performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities. JOB DIMENSIONS:Enterprise accountability for the ongoing support and operations of Tier 1 production applications within Capital Markets. Supports applications that execute 24/7/365 OLTP processing and require high availability and rapid incident response. Provides advisory and support services to multiple business units and technology teams. On-call responsibility for critical issues, including availability for weekend shifts. Working in close partnership with trading desks, Software Engineering, QA, DevOps, Application Architecture, middle office, and market data providers, the role ensures xTrader consistently meets demanding availability, performance, data integrity, and regulatory requirements across multiple regions and time zones. Who You Are (skills/qualifications): Must Have Skills: Proven people and team management experience leading a production support team, including workload management, shift coverage, performance management, and employee development. Strong derivatives product knowledge across asset classes, with solid understanding of the trade lifecycle and how a book of record trading platform supports front office trading. Hands on SQL and relational database skills, with the ability to query, investigate, and troubleshoot data issues directly during live production incidents. Proven experience with production monitoring and observability tooling, including ITRS Geneos or equivalent, and the ability to build and tune alerts for proactive issue detection. Experience acting as a senior escalation point within a live, time sensitive trading workplace. Strong incident and problem management capability, including major incident coordination, root cause analysis, and prevention focused follow through. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with trading desks, technology partners, and offshore teams. Strong analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to operate effectively under pressure in a high availability environment. Demonstrated commitment to operational excellence, service reliability, and continuous improvement.
