Senior SAP Manufacturing & Integration Architect/Engineer Required skillsSAP MESAP IBPDescription1. Role Mission & Strategic ObjectiveThe SAP Integration Architect serves as the critical bridge between on-premise shop-floor systems (OT/MES) and the enterprise core. During Phase I (Initiate & Discover), the primary objective of this role is to reverse-engineer, catalog, and de-risk the complex web of legacy SAP integrations across the Piła and Valladolid plants.The architect will map how existing SAP instances (PR2, PR4, and SAP ME) interact with local business workarounds and point-to-point applications. The output of their discovery will directly define the interface specifications and schema validation models for the new decoupled Manufacturing Distribution Layer (MDL) running on Microsoft Azure Arc.2. Key Responsibilities in Phase I (Weeks 1–8)2.1 Interface & Data Flow Mapping● Piła Discovery: Map and analyze the 77 active integrations, specifically focusing on data flows linked to SAP PR4 (ERP) (36 integrations) and SAP ME (MES) (23 integrations).● Valladolid Discovery: Map and document the plant’s core integration mechanism—the batch extraction of SAP PR2 data via the COHV transaction (Production Order Information System). Formulate fact sheets for the file-share pipelines (Operations, Components, Headers, Documents) hosted on local servers.● Technical Fact Sheets: Detail the technical parameters of each interface (IDocs, RFCs, BAPIs, OData, flat files), payload sizes, message frequencies, transactional boundaries, and failure modes.2.2 Legacy & Workaround Reverse Engineering● Custom Code Analysis: Evaluate the Java-based interface middleware (e.g., Valladolid's SubidaInformacionSAP.java) and the legacy VBA macros (Secuenciado.vba, BonoProduccionv9.vba, Oleadasv3.vba) that handle production dispatching, scheduling, and logistics updates.● GuiXT Deconstruction:
Analyze Piła's extensive use of GuiXT scripts used to automate and customize transactions on standard SAP GUI screens to ensure compatibility with the future S/4HANA RISE estate.● Excel-to-SAP Dependency Mapping: Map the pathways where raw data is extracted from SAP but executed locally via MS Excel databases (such as Piła's L2 planning_kolejka queue or N-Box production efficiency cockpit).2.3 Middleware & Edge Decoupling Design● Custom Integration Brokers: Assess specialized intermediate applications such as Scanbus (bridging SAP ME and physical floor scanners/testers) and Connected Factory (linking SAP ME to machine program equipment).● Semantic Gap Analysis: Contrast legacy SAP fields and structures with the target standard S/4HANA RISE schemas, defining the structural JSON/Avro translation logic that will be built into the Kafka Schema Registry during Phase II.2.4 Governance & Steering Support● Technical Risks & Roadblocks: Maintain and contribute to the FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) register, identifying high-risk legacy transactions vulnerable to S/4HANA migration.● Toll-Gate Documentation: Formulate the SAP-related chapters of the D1.2.1 Interface Inventory Catalog and D1.2.2 Data Semantic Gap Analysis to support the Phase I Toll-Gate gatekeeping presentation.3. Required Technical Skills & Competencies3.1 Core SAP Experience● Enterprise ERP: Deep knowledge of SAP ECC 6.0 (with a focus on older customized instances like PR2) and SAP S/4HANA (PR4 / RISE templates).● Manufacturing Execution: Hands-on experience with SAP ME (Manufacturing Execution) and SAP MII (Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence).● Supply Chain & Planning: Basic exposure to SAP APO and SAP IBP (Integrated Business Planning),
as both sites are currently planning or executing an IBP transition.● Functional Modules: Advanced competency in SAP PP (Production Planning, Shop Floor Control, COHV transactions), SAP MM (Materials Management), and SAP WM (Warehouse Management).3.2 Integration & Interface Technology● Protocols: Direct experience with SAP Application Interface Framework (AIF), RFC destination mapping, transactional RFC (tRFC), IDoc routing, BAPI invocation, and SOAP/REST OData services.● File-Based Exchanges: Expert knowledge of file transfer configurations (SFTP, NFS, secure file shares) and file parsing formats (CSV, flat TXT, XML) typical of legacy batch extraction.● Legacy Tools: Familiarity with GuiXT scripting for UI optimization and automated scripting in SAP ERP.3.3 Collaborative & Cloud Alignment● Azure Integration: Basic understanding of cloud-native messaging architectures (Azure IoT Operations, Kafka, MQTT, Event Hubs) to collaborate with the Edge Solution Architect on data mapping.● Secure SDLC: Familiarity with DevOps process, secure secret handling via Key Vaults, and modern Git repository structures.4. Professional Experience & Soft Skills● Experience Baseline: Solid base as an SAP Functional/Technical Consultant or Integration Architect, with at least 3 years working inside physical manufacturing (discrete or batch) environments.● Reverse-Engineering Mindset: Exceptional analytical skills to dissect legacy business-owned macros, custom Java programs, and poorly documented point-to-point workarounds.● Multi-Party Collaboration: Comfortable operating within a high-exposure steering workplace alongside Signify Central IT, local Piła/Valladolid plant leadership, Capgemini delivery teams, and Microsoft technical strategists.● In office Adaptability: Willingness to participate in active on-site "factory walkthroughs" and interface discovery workshops in noisy manufacturing environments.● Languages: * Fluency in English (mandatory).
