Job Summary
The Project Engineer is responsible for managing customer projects from order receipt through production, inspection, assembly, and final delivery. The role involves coordinating with customers, engineering, planning, procurement, production, quality, and suppliers to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Manage customer projects from Purchase Order (PO) receipt to final shipment.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules and milestone plans.
- Monitor project progress and ensure timely completion of all activities.
- Identify project risks and implement mitigation plans.
- Coordinate engineering changes and ensure effective implementation.
Customer Coordination
- Act as the primary point of contact for assigned customers.
- Conduct regular project review meetings with customers.
- Provide periodic updates on project status, manufacturing progress, and delivery schedules.
- Address customer queries, technical clarifications, and concerns promptly.
- Coordinate customer visits, audits, and project review meetings.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Engineering for manufacturing feasibility and technical support.
- Work closely with Production Planning & Control (PPC) to ensure capacity availability.
- Coordinate with Procurement for timely availability of raw materials, tooling, and outsourced processes.
- Liaise with Production to monitor machining, assembly, and testing progress.
- Work with Quality Assurance to ensure inspection, FAI, and documentation requirements are met.
- Coordinate logistics for on-time shipment of finished products.
Production & Manufacturing Support
- Monitor production status and resolve bottlenecks affecting project timelines.
- Track machining, assembly,
inspection, and subcontracting activities.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications and manufacturing standards.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) and prototype development.
- Participate in design for manufacturability (DFM) and process review discussions.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain project documentation, action trackers, and meeting minutes.
- Prepare project status reports, dashboards, and management presentations.
- Ensure customer documentation, quality records, and delivery documents are complete and accurate.
- Maintain configuration control for project-related documents.
Risk & Quality Management
- Identify schedule, quality, cost, and supply chain risks.
- Coordinate corrective and preventive actions for project issues.
- Support internal and customer audits.
- Ensure adherence to AS9100, customer-specific requirements, and company procedures.
- Monitor key project performance indicators and implement improvement actions.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining and mechanical assembly processes.
- Good understanding of project management principles.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and specifications.
- Knowledge of manufacturing workflows, routing, and production planning.
- Familiarity with GD&T; and inspection requirements.
- Understanding of aerospace quality standards and documentation.
- Robust analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
Software Knowledge
- ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.)
- Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Microsoft Project or equivalent project management software (preferred)
- AutoCAD (preferred)
- SolidWorks / Creo / NX (preferred)
