Role & responsibilities

- Manage the complete purchase and commercial activities for raw materials, consumables, spares, equipment, and other plant requirements.
- Plan and execute procurement of key raw materials such as Quartz, Coke/Charcoal, Mill Scale, CE Paste, Coal and other production inputs.
- Identify, evaluate, negotiate and develop reliable vendors to ensure quality, competitive pricing and timely delivery.
- Prepare and process RFQs, comparative statements, purchase orders and vendor negotiations in coordination with the Head Office and Factory.
- Ensure HO approval and proper authorization before release of purchase orders and maintain procurement controls.
- Coordinate with Production, Stores, Quality Control, Accounts, Logistics and Factory Management to understand requirements and ensure uninterrupted plant operations.
- Monitor purchase prices, market trends, inventory levels and consumption patterns to control procurement costs.
- Ensure proper quality testing and inspection of incoming raw materials, particularly critical materials such as Quartz, Coal and Mill Scale.
- Coordinate transportation, dispatch, loading/unloading, transhipment and delivery schedules with vendors and logistics partners.
- Handle commercial documentation including POs, invoices, delivery challans, e-way bills, GRNs, debit/credit notes and vendor documentation.
- Verify vendor bills against PO terms, received quantities, quality reports and approved rates before forwarding for payment.
- Coordinate with Accounts for vendor payments, outstanding reconciliation and settlement of commercial issues.
- Maintain proper records of purchase orders, vendor quotations, comparative statements, contracts and commercial correspondence.
- Negotiate credit terms, payment terms, freight, taxes, rates and other commercial conditions to achieve maximum cost efficiency.
- Handle vendor complaints, shortages, quality deviations, delayed supplies and other procurement-related disputes.




- Develop and maintain an approved vendor database and periodically evaluate vendor performance.
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies, statutory requirements and internal controls.
- Support cost reduction, alternate sourcing and strategic procurement initiatives.
- Prepare regular MIS reports on purchases, pending orders, inventory, vendor performance, price trends and cost savings.
- Coordinate with management on annual procurement planning, budgeting and major purchase decisions.
- Ensure timely availability of materials to avoid production interruption or excess inventory.
- Lead and supervise the Purchase & Commercial team, allocate responsibilities and monitor performance.

Preferred candidate profile

- Experience: 36 years of relevant experience in Purchase, Procurement & Commercial functions, preferably in Ferro Alloys, Steel, Mining, Power Plant, Manufacturing or Heavy Engineering industries.
- Graduate in B.Com / BBA / BBM / Engineering / Materials Management or a related discipline. MBA/PG Diploma in Purchase, Procurement or Supply Chain will be an added advantage.
- Hands-on experience in raw material procurement, vendor development, quotation analysis, comparative statements and commercial negotiations.
- Experience in procurement of Quartz, Coal, Coke/Carbon Materials, Mill Scale, CE Paste, plant consumables, mechanical/electrical spares and other industrial materials will be preferred.
- Strong knowledge of vendor negotiation, price benchmarking, payment terms, credit periods, freight and delivery conditions.
- Ability to independently handle Purchase Requisitions, RFQs, Comparative Statements, Purchase Orders and delivery follow-ups.
- Positive coordination skills with Production, Stores, Quality, Accounts, Logistics and Plant teams.
- Strong knowledge of MS Excel and ERP/Purchase Management systems.
- Good communication, analytical, negotiation and vendor-management skills.
- Should be commercially sharp, proactive and capable of achieving cost savings while ensuring timely material availability.
