Job Description – Radiology Technician

Department: Radiology / Diagnostic Imaging
Designation: Radiology Technician / Radiographer
Reports To: Radiologist / Radiology Department Head / Medical Superintendent
Location: Hospital

1. Job Purpose

To perform diagnostic imaging procedures safely and efficiently as prescribed by the Radiologist/authorized medical practitioner, ensuring patient safety, image quality, radiation protection, proper documentation, and compliance with hospital policies and applicable statutory requirements.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Patient Care

- Verify patient identity, investigation request, and relevant clinical information before the procedure.
- Explain the procedure to the patient and provide appropriate instructions.
- Position and handle patients safely during imaging procedures.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Identify and report any contraindications, allergies, or relevant clinical concerns to the Radiologist/authorized doctor.

B. Radiology Procedures

- Perform X-ray and other imaging procedures within the technician's authorized scope of practice.
- Operate radiology equipment safely and correctly.
- Ensure proper patient positioning and appropriate exposure parameters.
- Produce diagnostic-quality images while minimizing radiation exposure.
- Assist the Radiologist during special imaging procedures when required.
- Follow departmental protocols for contrast studies and immediately report any suspected adverse reaction.

C. Radiation Safety

- Follow the principles of radiation protection and ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable).
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment such as lead aprons and thyroid shields.
- Ensure radiation safety measures are followed for patients, staff, and attendants.
- Maintain radiation monitoring/dosimeter records where applicable.
- Immediately report equipment malfunction or radiation-safety concerns to the concerned authority.

D. Equipment & Maintenance

- Perform routine checks of imaging equipment before use.




- Maintain equipment cleanliness and ensure proper functioning.
- Report equipment breakdowns, defects, or calibration requirements promptly.
- Coordinate with biomedical engineering/service personnel for preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Ensure availability of necessary consumables and accessories.

E. Documentation & Records

- Maintain accurate investigation and procedure records.
- Ensure correct patient identification and labeling of images.
- Maintain registers, quality-control records, radiation-monitoring records, and equipment-related documentation.
- Ensure images are properly transferred/stored in PACS/RIS or the hospital's designated system.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and imaging records.

F. Infection Prevention & Control

- Follow hospital infection prevention and control policies.
- Clean and disinfect equipment and patient-contact surfaces as per protocol.
- Follow hand hygiene and appropriate PPE requirements.
- Dispose of biomedical waste according to hospital policy and applicable regulations.

G. Quality & Compliance

- Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities of the Radiology Department.
- Follow hospital SOPs, clinical protocols, safety standards, and statutory requirements.
- Participate in internal audits, training programs, drills, and accreditation-related activities such as NABH.
- Report incidents, near misses, and adverse events through the appropriate hospital reporting system.

3. Emergency Responsibilities

- Provide timely imaging services for emergency and critical patients.




- Prioritize emergency investigations as directed by the Radiologist/authorized physician.
- Assist in maintaining patient safety during emergency imaging procedures.
- Respond appropriately to contrast reactions or other procedure-related emergencies.

4. Qualifications & Experience

- Qualification: Diploma/B.Sc. in Radiology/Radiography or equivalent qualification recognized by the appropriate authority.
- Experience: Preferably 1–3 years of relevant hospital/radiology experience; freshers may be considered based on hospital requirements.
- Valid registration/licensing, wherever applicable, as per prevailing regulations.

5. Skills & Competencies

- Good knowledge of radiographic techniques and radiation safety.
- Ability to operate radiology equipment effectively.
- Good patient-handling and communication skills.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control.
- Basic computer and PACS/RIS knowledge.
- Ability to work under pressure, particularly in emergency situations.
- Attention to detail and commitment to image quality and patient safety.
- Teamwork and coordination with Radiologists, doctors, nurses, and other hospital departments.

6. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Quality and adequacy of diagnostic images.
- Compliance with radiation-safety protocols.
- Patient identification and documentation accuracy.
- Turnaround time for investigations.
- Equipment and departmental readiness.
- Compliance with infection-control practices.
- Patient safety and incident reporting.
- Compliance with hospital SOPs and NABH requirements.

7. General Responsibilities

- Maintain professional conduct and discipline.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Attend departmental meetings and mandatory training programs.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Radiologist, Department Head, or Hospital Management within the scope of the role.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
