Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Tekla Modeler to join our structural steel detailing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, developing, and maintaining accurate 3D structural steel models in Tekla Structures for Australian projects.
The role involves working from structural and architectural drawings through to IFA/IFC deliverables, ensuring models meet fabrication, erection, and shipping requirements. The ideal candidate should have strong Tekla modelling skills, good drawing interpretation ability, and a sound understanding of structural steel detailing practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and update accurate 3D structural and miscellaneous steel models using Tekla Structures.
- Study and interpret structural, architectural, and engineering drawings for accurate modelling.
- Assist with project setup, including Tekla environments, templates, attributes, and basic project settings.
- Place structural members, grids, plates, bolts, and standard connections according to project requirements.
- Model complex structural and miscellaneous steel systems as required.
- Configure project-specific connections, numbering, properties, and drawing extraction settings.
- Maintain consistent modelling practices and numbering discipline throughout the project.
- Perform self-review and quality checks after completing each modelling activity.
- Ensure models meet fabrication, erection, transportation, and shipping requirements.
- Generate and support the production of drawings, reports, material lists, and other project deliverables.
- Lead modelling activities from drawing study through IFA/IFC deliverables, based on experience level.
- Identify missing or conflicting information and prepare pre-modelling and post-modelling RFIs.
- Coordinate with Senior Modelers, Detailers, Checkers,
and Team Leads to resolve technical and detailing issues.
- Track submitted areas, revisions, model status, and numbering status.
- Incorporate design changes, revisions, and comments accurately into the model.
- Support project planning, task allocation, and effort estimation, where required.
- Ensure assigned modelling tasks are completed accurately and within project deadlines.
- Follow project-specific modelling standards, client requirements, and company quality procedures.
Requirements
- 1–5 years of experience in Tekla modelling / structural steel detailing.
- Strong hands-on experience with Tekla Structures.
- Ability to read and interpret structural, architectural, and engineering drawings.
- Good understanding of structural steel members, connections, plates, bolts, and miscellaneous steel.
- Knowledge of structural steel fabrication, erection, and shipping requirements.
- Understanding of Tekla numbering, properties, components, connections, and drawing extraction.
- Ability to perform self-checks and maintain high modelling accuracy.
- Valuable coordination and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a project team.
- Robust attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to manage priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Knowledge of Australian Standards and Australian structural steel detailing practices will be an advantage.
Preferred Skills
- Experience working on Australian structural steel projects.
- Familiarity with AS/NZS standards relevant to structural steelwork.
- Experience working through IFA and IFC deliverables.
- Understanding of fabrication, erection, transportation, and shipping requirements.
- Experience handling RFIs, revisions, client comments, and project-specific modelling requirements.
- Experience coordinating with detailers, checkers, engineers, and project leads.
- Knowledge of complex structural and miscellaneous steel modelling.
