Seeking a highly accomplished and visionary Lead Java Developer with 6-9 years of extensive experience to join our advanced technology team. This pivotal role demands not only exceptional hands-on development skills but also a proven track record of technical leadership, architectural design, and strategic influence. The ideal candidate will drive the design and implementation of complex, enterprise-scale Java applications, setting technical direction, mentoring senior teams, and ensuring the delivery of robust, scalable, and innovative solutions that align with Highmark's strategic objectives. This role requires a deep understanding of software engineering principles, system architecture, and contemporary development practices. Key Responsibilities: • Lead the architectural design, development, and implementation of highly complex, scalable, and resilient Java-based applications and microservices. • Serve as a technical authority, providing expert guidance and strategic direction on technology choices, architectural patterns, and development best practices. • Drive technical innovation and continuous improvement across development teams, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and knowledge sharing. • Mentor, coach, and provide technical leadership to senior and junior developers, promoting skill development and career growth. • Collaborate extensively with enterprise architects, product management, business stakeholders, and other engineering teams to define technical strategy and roadmaps. • Conduct in-depth code reviews, enforce coding standards, and ensure adherence to security, performance, and scalability requirements. • Proactively identify and address technical debt, architectural shortcomings, and performance bottlenecks, implementing long-term solutions. • Evaluate new technologies, tools, and frameworks, making recommendations for their adoption to enhance development efficiency and product capabilities. • Oversee the entire software development lifecycle for key projects,



from conceptualization and design to deployment, monitoring, and operational support. • Champion Agile/DevOps methodologies and contribute to the automation of build, test, and deployment processes. • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architectural diagrams, design specifications, and strategic technical briefs. • Drive continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices, ensuring rapid and reliable software releases. Required Skills and Qualifications: • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. • 9-12 years of progressive, hands-on experience in Java enterprise application development. • Exceptional proficiency in Java 8+ and deep understanding of JVM internals, concurrency, and performance optimization. • Extensive expertise with the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Data, Spring Security) and experience with building highly distributed systems. • Proven track record in designing and implementing robust Microservices architectures, API Gateways, and complex RESTful APIs. • Deep understanding and hands-on experience with various cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including cloud-native development, serverless computing, and managed services. • Expertise with containerization technologies (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes). • Profound knowledge of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server) and experience with SQL optimization, as well as exposure to NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB). • Strong experience with message brokers (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ) and event-driven architectures.



• Mastery of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps) and advanced version control strategies (Git). • Expert-level understanding of software design patterns, architectural patterns, data structures, and algorithms. • Demonstrated ability to drive technical vision, influence teams, and solve complex, ambiguous problems. • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. • Experience with performance tuning, load testing, and scaling large-scale applications. • Strong advocate for test-driven development (TDD), behavior-driven development (BDD), and other quality assurance practices. Preferred Skills (Bonus Points): • Experience with domain-driven design (DDD) and enterprise integration patterns. • Prior experience in a technical lead or architect role. • Familiarity with front-end technologies (e.g., Angular, React) for full-stack perspective. • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) or data streaming. • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, Oracle Certified Professional). • Experience in the healthcare or insurance industry, including knowledge of regulatory compliance (e.g., HIPAA).
