Job Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Tekla Checker to join our structural steel detailing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for checking Tekla 3D models, fabrication drawings, and erection drawings to ensure accuracy, constructability, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
The role involves working closely with Tekla Modelers, Detailers, Team Leads, and Project Managers to identify errors, coordinate corrections, and maintain high-quality deliverables for Australian projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently check Tekla 3D models, assembly drawings, single-part drawings, and erection drawings.
- Perform a complete checking cycle from model review through final drawing deliverables.
- Verify models and drawings against structural, architectural, and engineering drawings.
- Check dimensions, member sizes, connections, plates, bolts, welds, levels, grids, and other detailing information.
- Identify errors, inconsistencies, clashes, omissions, and missing information.
- Ensure models and drawings meet project specifications, approved samples, and client requirements.
- Check fabrication, erection, transportation, and shipping requirements where applicable.
- Maintain accurate model and drawing comment/checking logs.
- Coordinate with Modelers and Detailers to communicate corrections and ensure comments are properly addressed.
- Re-check revised models and drawings to confirm all comments have been incorporated correctly.
- Identify root causes of recurring errors and recommend improvements to prevent reoccurrence.
- Support initiatives to improve detailing quality and reduce repeat errors.
- Ensure consistent application of company, project, and client-specific detailing standards.
- Support preparation and review of IFA/IFC deliverables.
- Assist in identifying project risks,
technical issues, and potential delivery constraints.
- Support task scheduling, checking priorities, effort estimation, and delivery planning as required.
- Mentor and guide junior checkers, modelers, and detailers on quality and checking standards.
- Act as the final quality gate before drawings and models are submitted to the client.
- Ensure all assigned checking activities are completed accurately and within project deadlines.
Requirements
- 2–7 years of relevant experience in structural steel detailing/checking.
- Strong hands-on experience with Tekla Structures.
- Previous experience as a Tekla Checker / Structural Steel Checker is preferred.
- Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection.
- Ability to read and interpret structural, architectural, and engineering drawings.
- Good understanding of steel members, connections, plates, bolts, welds, stairs, handrails, and miscellaneous steel.
- Solid knowledge of Tekla models, assembly drawings, single-part drawings, and erection drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify technical and coordination issues.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage checking activities within project schedules.
- Knowledge of Australian Standards and Australian structural steel detailing practices will be an advantage.
Preferred Skills
- Experience checking Australian structural steel projects.
- Familiarity with AS/NZS standards relevant to structural steelwork.
- Experience with IFA and IFC deliverables.
- Understanding of fabrication, erection, transportation, and shipping requirements.
- Experience identifying and resolving RFIs, clashes, discrepancies, and constructability issues.
- Ability to analyze recurring errors and implement preventive quality measures.
- Experience mentoring junior team members and coordinating with project teams.
