Role & responsibilities
Nursing Inpatient / General Ward
Job Purpose To provide safe, compassionate, and quality nursing care to patients admitted in the ward by following established clinical protocols, maintaining accurate documentation, administering medications and treatments as prescribed, and coordinating effectively with doctors and other healthcare professionals to ensure positive patient outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to patients admitted in the ward and ensure their comfort, safety, hygiene, and overall well-being.
- Conduct initial patient assessment and reassessment, including monitoring and recording vital signs, pain scores, and clinical condition.
- Implement and regularly update individual patient care plans based on the patient's condition and doctor's instructions.
- Administer medications, injections, IV fluids, and other prescribed treatments following the right patient, right drug, right dose, right route, and right time principles.
- Monitor patients before, during, and after medication administration and immediately report any adverse reactions or deterioration.
- Assist doctors during rounds, examinations, dressings, minor procedures, and other clinical interventions.
- Ensure proper admission, transfer, discharge, and handover procedures are followed.
- Maintain accurate nursing notes, medication charts, patient files, care plans, and other clinical documentation.
- Collect and send patient samples to the laboratory correctly and follow up on investigation reports and critical values.
- Coordinate with pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, physiotherapy, dietary, billing/insurance, housekeeping, and other departments for smooth patient care.
- Follow infection prevention and control practices, including proper hand hygiene, PPE usage, biomedical waste management, and safe disposal of sharps.
- Maintain adequate availability, storage, and expiry checks of medicines, consumables,
and nursing equipment.
- Ensure patient identification, ID bands, fall prevention, and other patient-safety protocols are followed.
- Educate patients and attendants regarding medication, treatment, hygiene, diet, precautions, and discharge instructions.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and professional communication at all times.
- Respond promptly to emergencies and provide appropriate nursing support as per hospital protocols.
- Participate in audits, training programs, continuing nursing education, quality initiatives, and emergency drills.
- Ensure effective shift handover and communicate all relevant patient information to the incoming nursing team.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and patient-friendly ward environment.

Qualification
- B.Sc. Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.
- Valid nursing registration/licence is mandatory.
- BLS certification would be an advantage.
Experience
- 1- 3 years of relevant hospital/ward nursing experience can be considered for the role.
- Candidates with experience in general wards, medical-surgical wards, or other inpatient settings would be preferred.
