Job Purpose The Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that incoming materials, in-process products, and finished goods meet customer specifications, engineering drawings, and company quality standards. The role focuses on preventing defects, maintaining quality records, supporting production, and ensuring compliance with quality management systems.
Educational Qualification
- ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- B.Tech/B.E. (Mechanical) preferred
- Additional certifications in Quality Management or Metrology will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 25 years of experience in Quality Inspection within the Automotive, Auto Components, Fabrication, Sheet Metal, or Precision Manufacturing industry.

Key Objectives

Key Responsibilities
Incoming Quality Inspection
- Inspect incoming raw materials and bought-out components.
- Verify dimensions and specifications as per drawings.
- Prepare Incoming Inspection Reports.
- Segregate and identify non-conforming materials.
- Coordinate with Purchase and Stores regarding rejected materials.
In-Process Inspection
- Perform stage-wise inspection during production.
- Monitor critical process parameters.
- Verify dimensions using approved measuring instruments.
- Ensure adherence to Control Plans and SOPs.
- Identify quality deviations and report immediately.
- Perform in-process inspection at different stages of production to ensure conformity with approved specifications.
- Conduct incoming, in-process, and final inspection of components/products.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, component drawings, specifications, and inspection standards.
- Apply basic knowledge of GD&T; (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) for dimensional inspection.
- Perform dimensional and visual inspection as per drawing, Control Plan, SOP, and work instructions.
- Accurately use and handle measuring instruments, including:
- Vernier Caliper
- Micrometer
- Height Gauge
- UTM (Universal Testing Machine)
- VMM (Video Measuring Machine)
- Gauges and other inspection equipment
- Identify and record rejection, defects, deviations, and non-conforming products.
- Segregate rejected/non-conforming material and ensure proper identification and traceability.
- Prepare and maintain inspection reports, rejection reports, defect records, and quality documentation.
- Monitor critical quality parameters and identify defects at an early stage to prevent further rejection and rework.
- Coordinate with Production for immediate correction of process-related quality issues.
- Support root cause analysis, 5 Why, Fishbone, CAPA, and corrective/preventive actions for repeated rejection.
- Support implementation of Poka-Yoke and preventive quality controls.
- Verify first-piece approval and production batch inspection.
- Report recurring defects, rejection trends, and quality deviations to the Quality Engineer/Manager.
- Ensure proper calibration status and safe handling of measuring instruments.
- Support internal, customer, and process audits as required.
- Participate in 5S, continuous improvement, and defect-reduction activities.

Final Inspection
- Conduct final inspection before dispatch.
- Verify product dimensions, appearance, and functionality.
- Ensure customer-specific inspection requirements are met.
- Release products only after successful inspection.
Documentation
- Maintain inspection reports.
- Prepare Non-Conformance Reports (NCR).
- Maintain rejection and rework records.
- Support traceability documentation.
- Maintain calibration records of measuring instruments.
Quality Improvement
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis.
- Support implementation of Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Participate in Kaizen and Continuous Improvement projects.
- Support Process Validation and PPAP activities.
- Participate in Internal and External Audits.
Authority The Quality Inspector is authorized to:
- Stop production in case of major quality deviations.
- Reject non-conforming materials/products within defined authority.
- Hold products pending quality clearance.
- Recommend corrective actions for quality issues.
- Escalate customer-critical quality concerns to the QA Manager.
Accountability The incumbent is accountable for:
- Product quality compliance.
- Inspection accuracy.
- Reduction of rejection and rework.
- Proper maintenance of inspection records.
- Customer complaint reduction.
- Timely reporting of quality issues.

- Promote 5S, Safety, Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the QA Manager or Management.
