Ashar Urban Futures Lab is building India's first venture studio dedicated to the built environment - PropTech, ConTech, UrbanTech, Climate Infrastructure. UFL is backed by 25 years of Ashar Group's real estate operating scale: 30,000+ homeowners, 200+ corporate relationships, and live testbeds across active developments.

Venture Development Lead

LOCATION: Mumbai / Thane

REPORTS TO: Founder & Director, UFL

This role owns UFL's hands-on venture-development partnership - taking a physical/technical problem statements (smart-home devices, sensor-based aging-in-place tech, compact composting appliances) from concept to a priced, GTM-ready prototype alongside an external tech/product partner. It is a deliberately narrow mandate at first: prove the model on one partnership before it expands. As it does, this role is designed to grow into leading UFL's Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) program.

WHAT YOU WILL DRIVE

- Translate UFL's research-backed problem statements into build briefs a technical/manufacturing partner can execute and own the working relationship with the venture partner (Explore problem statements here)
- Drive prototyping cycles end to end - scoping, iteration timelines, and keeping the work tied to the thesis rather than generic product development




- Build price-point and unit-economics models for each prototype - cost of goods, target pricing, margin structure so decisions are numbers-driven, not asserted
- Develop GTM sequencing that uses UFL/Ashars own strengths (30,000+ homeowners, live testbeds, and 200+ corporate relationships
- Document what's learned on each problem statement so it's ready to hand to a dedicated founder or EIR once vetted
- As the mandate expands: design and run the EIR sourcing funnel applications, shortlisting, theme briefs and help structure the 180300 day residency itself
- Represent UFL at partner events and demo days

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

- 68 years of operating experience - product management, venture building, or hardware/physical-product development; exposure to real estate, construction, or urban infrastructure is a robust plus
- Commercially rigorous: comfortable building a costing model and a pricing argument
- Founder-adjacent instincts: you'd rather be in the trenches with a build partner than issuing memos from the sidelines
- Comfortable with a mandate that starts narrow and is designed to grow
