Role Description The Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) Operator will set up and operate vertical turning lathes to machine precision components according to engineering drawings and process plans. Day-to-day responsibilities include interpreting technical drawings, selecting appropriate tools and fixtures, loading and securing workpieces, and adjusting machine parameters to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish. The role involves continuous monitoring of the machining process, performing basic troubleshooting, conducting routine inspections and measurements, and maintaining production logs.





The operator will also carry out preventive maintenance tasks, follow safety protocols, and collaborate with quality and production teams to meet delivery targets. This is a full time, on-site role located in Coimbatore.

Qualifications

- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, machining process sheets, and basic CAD outputs.
- Hands-on experience in operating vertical turning lathes, including workpiece setup, tool selection, and machine parameter adjustment.
- Knowledge of CNC machining fundamentals, cutting tools, speeds and feeds, and basic G/M code understanding for turning operations.
- Competence in using measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and dial indicators for in-process and final inspection.
- Understanding of quality standards, tolerance limits, and documentation practices related to precision machining.
- Awareness of workplace safety procedures, machine guarding, PPE use, and safe material handling around rotating equipment.
- Basic troubleshooting skills to identify machining issues, tool wear, and process deviations, and escalate when necessary.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures, production schedules, and maintain accurate production and inspection records.
- Teamworking and communication skills to coordinate with supervisors, programmers, and quality inspectors on job requirements.
