Job Title: Tooling Engineer-Stamping
Department: Tool Room-Stamping
Reports To: Manager-Toolroom
Job Summary The Tooling Engineer is responsible for developing, and maintaining tooling and fixtures used in manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in mechanical engineering, proficiency in CAD software, and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes and materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop tooling, molds, and fixtures for manufacturing processes such as injection molding, stamping, and assembly.
- Utilize CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) to create detailed designs and drawings of tooling components and assemblies.
- Conduct feasibility studies and analysis to evaluate the performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of tooling designs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, production, and quality assurance to ensure tooling designs meet requirements and standards.
- Optimize existing tooling designs to improve productivity, quality, and cost efficiency.
- Specify materials, finishes, and manufacturing processes for tooling components based on functional requirements and operational constraints.
- Develop and maintain documentation including design drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and operating procedures.
- Participate in tooling trials, debugging activities, and process validations to ensure successful implementation and functionality.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise for tooling-related issues during production.
Qualifications
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship program or technical training in tool and die making.
- Experience
- Minimum of 1 years of experience as a tool and die maker in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience with precision machining and fabrication techniques.
- Skills and Competencies
- Proven experience in tooling design and development within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for 2D and 3D modeling.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, stamping, and machining.
- Knowledge of materials selection, properties, and manufacturing tolerances.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex technical problems related to tooling and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality in design and documentation.
Working Conditions
- Work Environment:
- Works primarily in a tool room or machine shop environment.
- Regular exposure to noise, dust, and other elements typical of a manufacturing setting.
- Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and work on feet for extended periods.
- Capability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precision work.
