About Ekko

Ekko is an AI-powered healthcare product that turns clinical conversations into structured documentation. Our pipeline transcribes audio, generates clinical notes, and extracts structured data using LLMs. We ship a web app and a backend service used by clinicians who depend on getting it right.

We're a small, early-stage team that cares a lot about craft, moves rapid, and keeps the chai flowing.

The person in this role sets the technical bar for everyone around them.

The Role

We're hiring a Tech Lead to be our player-coach: someone who writes real production code and sets technical direction for the team. You'll own how we build across our React/TypeScript front-end and NestJS/TypeScript backend, make the architecture calls that matter, and grow the engineers around you.

This is not a hands-off architect role. You'll spend a healthy share of your week in the codebase

(think roughly half to two-thirds), shipping alongside the team while also unblocking them, reviewing their work, and raising the standard. You'll partner closely with product and the CTO to turn a fast-

moving roadmap into solid, reliable software that clinicians can trust.

The best person for this leads by earning trust, not by issuing decrees. You listen first, diagnose before you change things, and you're as comfortable mentoring a junior engineer as you are debating a tradeoff with a founder.

What You'll Do

Set technical direction

Own architecture decisions across the web app, backend, and AI pipeline integration

Make pragmatic tradeoffs between speed, reliability, and long-term maintainability

Define engineering standards for code quality,



testing, and how we ship

Stay hands-on

Write production code across our React / TypeScript and NestJS / TypeScript stack

Take on the hard or ambiguous parts of the build yourself

Lead by example in code review, debugging, and incident response

Grow the team

Mentor engineers and help them go from executing tasks to owning outcomes

Give clear, kind, direct feedback, and pair on tricky problems

Build a healthy engineering culture as the team scales

Own delivery

Break a roadmap into shippable milestones and keep them moving

Be honest and early about risk, scope, and timelines

Partner with product and the CTO so we build the right thing, not just something

What You Bring

7+ years building production software, with at least 2 years leading or as a tech lead

Strong full-stack ability in TypeScript (React on the front-end, Node/NestJS or similar on the backend)

A track record of making sound architecture decisions and explaining the reasoning simply

Real experience mentoring engineers and raising a team's bar

Comfort owning delivery end to end: scope, sequencing, risk, and shipping The judgment to listen and diagnose before making sweeping changes

Comfort with startup life: ambiguity, ownership, and shipping over perfection

Nice to Have

Healthcare or other high-trust,



accuracy-critical software experience

Experience building or integrating LLM/AI pipelines in production

Familiarity with AWS, Prisma, Redis, and real-time systems (WebSockets)

Experience setting up CI/CD and quality gates (GitHub Actions)

Serious foodies welcome; we take team lunch a little too seriously
