Role Description The Sterilization Technician is a full-time, on-site role based at RIMSHospitals in Chennai. The role involves cleaning, decontaminating, and sterilizing surgical instruments, equipment, and reusable medical supplies in accordance with hospital protocols and regulatory standards.

The Sterilization

Technician will prepare and assemble instrument trays for the operating room and other clinical areas, monitor sterilization cycles, and maintain accurate records of processes and equipment usage. Daily responsibilities include handling biohazardous materials safely, performing routine checks on sterilization equipment, and collaborating with clinical teams to ensure timely availability of sterile supplies.



The role also requires adherence to infection control policies, participation in quality assurance activities, and reporting any equipment issues or process deviations promptly.

Qualifications

- Robust knowledge and practical experience in decontamination and sterilization processes, including cleaning, packaging, and operating sterilization equipment.
- Understanding of infection control principles and practices, including safe handling of biohazardous materials and adherence to hospital protocols.
- Familiarity with operating room procedures and workflow, with the ability to assemble and manage sterile instrument trays and supplies.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology relevant to surgical instruments, procedures, and hospital departments.
- Attention to detail, ability to follow standard operating procedures, and strong record-keeping skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move instrument sets, and work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with nurses, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals.
- Completion of a Sterile Processing/ Central Sterile Services Technician course or equivalent certification is preferred.
- Prior experience in a hospital sterilization or central sterile services department is an advantage.
