Job Title: Project Archaeologist

Position Summary

The Project Archaeologist is responsible for conducting and supervising archaeological investigations, field surveys, excavations, artifact analysis, documentation, and report preparation in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The role involves managing field crews, ensuring data quality, supporting cultural resource management (CRM) projects, and contributing to research and preservation efforts.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct archaeological fieldwork, including surveys, testing, monitoring, and excavation activities.
- Record archaeological findings through detailed notes, maps, drawings, photographs, and GIS data collection.
- Lead and supervise archaeological technicians and field crews on project sites.
- Analyze artifacts, features, and cultural materials recovered during investigations.
- Prepare technical reports, research designs, cultural resource assessments, and compliance documentation.
- Coordinate with project managers, regulatory agencies, tribal representatives, and clients.




- Ensure compliance with applicable cultural resource regulations, including Section 106, NEPA, and state preservation requirements.
- Manage project schedules, field logistics, data quality, and deliverables.
- Assist with post-excavation activities, artifact cataloging, archive preparation, and laboratory processing.
- Maintain health and safety standards during field operations.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Cultural Resource Management, or a related field.
- 3-5+ years of archaeological field experience, including survey, excavation, and report writing.
- Experience supervising field crews and managing cultural resource projects.
- Robust understanding of archaeological methodologies, artifact identification, and documentation standards.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local historic preservation regulations.
- Proficiency with GPS, GIS
