The Quantity Surveyor is responsible for quantity estimation, cost planning, BOQ preparation, tendering support, contractor billing, cost control, variation management, and ensuring projects are completed within the approved budget while maintaining quality and contractual compliance.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Quantity Estimation & BOQ
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs from architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.
- Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ) for tendering and execution.
- Verify quantities submitted by consultants and contractors.
- Maintain quantity reconciliation throughout the project lifecycle.
2. Cost Estimation & Budgeting
- Prepare project cost estimates during concept, design, and execution stages.
- Develop cost plans and budget forecasts.
- Monitor actual costs against approved budgets.
- Identify potential cost overruns and recommend corrective actions.
3. Tendering & Procurement Support
- Prepare tender documents and BOQs.
- Float enquiries to vendors and contractors.
- Analyze quotations and prepare comparative statements.
- Assist in technical and commercial negotiations.
- Recommend award of contracts.
4. Contract Administration
- Review contract terms and conditions.
- Ensure contractual compliance by contractors.
- Monitor contract milestones and deliverables.
- Maintain contract documentation and records.
5. Billing & Payment Certification
- Verify contractor RA Bills.
- Measure executed quantities jointly with site engineers.
- Certify work completed for payment processing.
- Prepare final bills and settlement statements.
