Job Summary
Senior Manager, Competitive Intelligence (CI), responsible for leading end-to-end CI delivery from the BMS Hyderabad Hub to support global pipeline and in-market assets. This role combines strategic hands-on intelligence leadership with people management responsibilities, requiring both individual contribution and team leadership. The role drives competitive strategy through primary and secondary intelligence, competitor monitoring, congress insights, and strategic simulation exercises.
Partners closely with Business Development, Commercial, Medical, and RD stakeholders to translate competitive and scientific intelligence into actionable business recommendations. Requires deep pharmaceutical CI expertise, solid leadership capabilities, stakeholder influence, and the ability to operate effectively in a complex global matrix environment.
Responsibilities
CI Strategy KITs/KIQs: Partner with global CI leads and Strategy/Commercial/franchise teams to define Key Intelligence Topics and Questions (KITs KIQs); prioritize the CI agenda across therapeutic areas and translate business questions into structured research plans.
- Secondary Primary Research: Lead hypothesis-driven primary and secondary research across clinical, regulatory, scientific, and commercial domains to address critical business questions and intelligence gaps.
- Pipeline Competitor Tracking: Lead proactive monitoring of competitor pipelines, clinical milestones, regulatory developments, label changes, BD activity, and patent/IP developments to deliver timely intelligence and strategic implications.
- Congress Conference Intelligence: Drive pre-conference framing, on-site intelligence capture, and post-congress synthesis for key scientific and medical meetings; debrief internal stakeholders with clear strategic and business implications.
- Competitive Simulation Scenario Analysis: Design and facilitate competitive response modelling, competitive strategy simulations,
and scenario workshops to stress-test strategy across evolving competitive landscapes.
- Executive Deliverables: Develop executive-ready insights, competitive assessments, strategic implications, and decision-support materials for senior leadership and governance forums, ensuring accuracy and on-time delivery.
- People Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and mentor a team of CI analysts; allocate work, manage competing priorities, ensure on-time delivery, and contribute to talent planning, performance reviews, and year-end assessments.
- Stakeholder Management: Serve as a trusted strategic thought partner to Commercial, Medical, RD, Business Development, and CI stakeholders, influencing key decisions through timely and actionable competitive insights.
- CI Capability Innovation : Build and scale CI capabilities, frameworks, methodologies, and knowledge repositories while championing best practices, AI-enabled approaches, and advanced analytics to enhance intelligence generation, delivery, and business impact
Skills and competencies
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical synthesis, and CI expertise, with a proven track record supporting decision-making in a pharmaceutical MNC or GCC environment.
- Deep understanding of pharmaceutical RD, clinical development, regulatory pathways, commercialization, and lifecycle management.
- Strong verbal/written communication and executive presence, with the ability to influence senior and global leadership.
- Demonstrated people leadership and project management skills, with the ability to lead diverse teams and successfully manage multiple strategic priorities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and business acumen,
identifying key findings from disparate data sources to drive recommendations.
- Ability to operate and influence cross-functionally in a global matrix organization.
Experience
- Bachelors or masters in a life sciences, pharmacy, or quantitative discipline (MBA or advanced scientific degree - PhD/PharmD - preferred).
- 13+ years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotech competitive intelligence, market intelligence, strategy, or related functions, including team leadership experience.
- Proven track record supporting global commercial, medical, and RD stakeholders.
- Experience interacting with and influencing senior leadership - understanding, anticipating, and fulfilling their insight and analytical requirements.
- Deep understanding of therapeutic area landscapes, drug development, commercialization, lifecycle management, and business development.
- Hands-on experience utilizing leading pharmaceutical intelligence, commercial, and clinical datasets (e.g. Citeline Evaluate GlobalData IQVIA) and public sources including SEC filings, publications, clinical trial registries, and patent databases.
- Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, familiarity with visualization tools Power BI and Tableau is a plus.
- Experience operating successfully in a global matrix organization.
