Senior Accountant – Work Scope For a Senior Accountant in a manufacturing/food-processing company, the work scope can cover the following areas:
1. Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Maintain day-to-day accounting records in Tally/ERP.
- Record purchase, sales, receipt, payment, journal and contra entries.
- Verify supporting documents before passing accounting entries.
- Maintain proper ledger accounts and ensure accurate accounting classification.
- Review and reconcile customer, supplier and employee ledgers.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and payables.
- Ensure timely posting of all financial transactions.
1. Accounts Payable – Purchase
- Verify purchase invoices against PO, GRN and supporting documents.
- Check GST, TDS and other applicable statutory deductions.
- Process supplier invoices and payment requests.
- Maintain supplier outstanding reports.
- Reconcile supplier statements with company books.
- Coordinate with Purchase, Stores and suppliers for invoice discrepancies.
1. Accounts Receivable – Sales
- Verify sales invoices, debit notes and credit notes.
- Ensure correct GST and other applicable tax details.
- Maintain customer outstanding statements.
- Follow up with concerned departments/customers for pending payments.
- Prepare ageing reports and collection reports.
- Reconcile customer balances periodically.
1. Bank & Cash Management
- Record and verify all bank transactions.
- Prepare regular bank reconciliation statements (BRS).
- Monitor bank balances and daily cash position.
- Verify payment approvals and supporting documents.
- Maintain cash book and petty cash records.
- Identify and resolve unreconciled bank entries.
1. GST Compliance
- Verify purchase and sales data for GST accuracy.
- Coordinate for GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and other applicable GST compliance.
- Reconcile purchase data with GSTR-2B.
- Identify differences in ITC and coordinate for corrections.
- Verify GST on invoices, credit notes and debit notes.
- Maintain GST-related records and documentation.
- Assist in GST audits, notices and departmental requirements.
1. TDS & Other Statutory Compliance
- Calculate and verify applicable TDS deductions.
- Ensure timely TDS payment and return filing.
- Verify TDS certificates and vendor/customer requirements.
- Maintain statutory compliance records.
- Coordinate with consultants/CA for statutory filings and queries.
1. Payroll & Employee Accounting
- Coordinate with HR for monthly payroll inputs.
- Verify salary, deductions, advances and reimbursements.
- Coordinate for PF, ESIC, PT, TDS and other payroll-related compliance.
- Verify payroll accounting entries.
- Reconcile salary payable with payroll records.
- Maintain employee advances and recoveries.
1. Fixed Assets
- Maintain fixed asset register.
- Record purchase, capitalization, transfer and disposal of assets.
- Calculate depreciation as per applicable accounting requirements.
- Reconcile the fixed asset register with the general ledger.
- Support physical verification of fixed assets.
1. Inventory & Stock Accounting
- Coordinate with Stores/Purchase/Production for stock records.
- Reconcile physical stock with book stock.
- Verify inventory valuation.
- Review stock adjustments, wastage, shortages and excesses.
- Assist in monthly/annual stock valuation.
- Coordinate with production for material consumption and finished goods reconciliation.
1. Export Accounting
For an export-oriented company:
- Verify export sales invoices and supporting documents.
- Record export sales and related expenses.
- Coordinate with Export/Documentation teams for shipping documents.
- Verify realization of export receivables.
- Assist in reconciliation of export invoices with bank realization.
- Maintain records relating to LUT, export documentation and related accounting transactions.
- Coordinate with auditors/consultants for export-related accounting requirements.
1. Month-End Closing
- Complete monthly accounting activities within the defined timeline.
- Pass necessary provisions, accruals and adjustment entries.
- Reconcile major ledger accounts.
- Review outstanding expenses and income.
- Prepare monthly trial balance.
- Identify unusual or incorrect accounting entries.
- Support preparation of monthly MIS.
1. MIS & Management Reporting
Prepare and submit reports such as:
- Monthly Profit & Loss statement.
- Balance Sheet schedules.
- Cash-flow position.
- Receivables ageing.
- Payables ageing.
- Sales and purchase summary.
- Expense analysis.
- GST/TDS liability reports.
- Bank position.
- Working-capital analysis.
- Budget vs. actual expenditure.
- Product/customer-wise profitability, where required.
1. Audit Coordination
- Coordinate with statutory auditors, internal auditors and tax consultants.
- Provide accounting schedules and supporting documents.
- Prepare audit working papers.
- Resolve audit queries in coordination with management.
- Track audit observations and ensure timely closure.
- Maintain proper documentation for audit purposes.
1. Internal Control
- Ensure proper authorization of financial transactions.
- Check invoices and supporting documents before payment.
- Identify accounting errors, duplicate invoices and unusual transactions.
- Maintain segregation of duties wherever applicable.
- Recommend improvements in accounting processes.
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies.
1. Budget & Cost Control
- Assist management in preparation of annual budgets.
- Monitor actual expenses against budget.
- Analyse major cost variations.
- Identify unnecessary or abnormal expenses.
- Prepare variance reports for management review.
- Support cost-control initiatives.
1. Team Supervision
- Supervise junior accountants and accounting staff.
- Allocate daily accounting activities.
- Review entries prepared by team members.
- Guide staff regarding accounting procedures and statutory compliance.
- Monitor completion of monthly closing activities.
- Ensure proper filing and maintenance of accounting documents.
1. ERP / Tally Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely accounting entries in Tally/ERP.
- Review masters such as ledger, supplier, customer and tax ledgers.
- Coordinate with IT/ERP team for accounting-system issues.
- Maintain proper document numbering and accounting controls.
- Generate required accounting and MIS reports.
1. Management Support
- Provide accurate financial information to management for decision-making.
- Highlight major financial risks, outstanding amounts and unusual transactions.
- Assist in working-capital management.
- Support management in financial planning and cost-control decisions.
- Provide information required for banking, insurance, tax and other financial matters.
1. Documentation & Record Keeping
- Maintain vouchers, invoices, bank records and statutory documents.
- Ensure proper filing of accounting documents.
- Maintain digital and physical records.
- Ensure documents are readily available for audit and management review.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
1. Key Responsibility / Accountability
The Senior Accountant should ultimately ensure:“Accurate accounting + timely statutory compliance + proper reconciliations + effective control over receivables/payables + timely monthly closing + reliable financial reporting to management.” Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
