Who We Are Looking For
Quanteam UK are seeking a Senior Snowflake / Power BI Developer to join a Risk Technology team responsible for designing, integrating and supporting Market and Credit Risk platforms across EMEA, North America and Asia Pacific.
The team is undertaking a transformation programme, migrating legacy systems and expanding existing platforms onto modern cloud-based solutions, and consolidating risk systems globally.
The successful candidate will help enhance a Market Risk platform that uses Snowflake for data storage, including VaR, sensitivities and stress data, and Power BI for reporting via the Power BI Service and Excel, while also contributing to the migration of a legacy Credit Risk platform (SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS and SSRS) onto the same Snowflake/Power BI architecture. The role involves working directly with risk managers to capture requirements, manage expectations and deliver data solutions, including extending platform coverage to additional entities and reverse engineering Excel EUCs into ELT processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing, developing and implementing data solutions using Snowflake and Power BI for the market risk platform, covering VaR, sensitivities and stress testing data.
- Enhancing and maintaining Power BI models and cubes to support data accuracy, performance and user accessibility via Excel and the Power BI Service.
- Contributing to the migration of the legacy credit risk platform (SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS and SSRS) onto the Snowflake/Power BI architecture.
- Developing and optimising ELT/ETL pipelines to ingest, transform and load data into Snowflake, maintaining data quality and performance.
- Collaborating with risk managers and other stakeholders to gather requirements, estimate project scope and translate business needs into technical specifications.
- Using dbt for data modelling and transformation within Snowflake, maintaining data quality, lineage and version control.
- Developing solutions using Python for data analysis, transformation and integration tasks.
- Implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, deployment and monitoring of data solutions.
- Troubleshooting data-related issues, performance bottlenecks and system errors within the Snowflake and Power BI environment.
- Communicating with non-technical stakeholders and managing expectations regarding project deliverables and timelines.
- Planning and managing workload, and mentoring junior developers to support their development within the team.
Technical Competence
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience as a BI Developer or Data Engineer with a focus on Snowflake and Power BI.
- Expertise in Snowflake, including data modelling (star/snowflake schemas), query optimisation and Snowflake-specific features such as virtual warehouses and time travel.
- Experience designing and developing data pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF).
- Practical experience with dbt for data transformation and modelling in Snowflake.
- Proficiency in Power BI, including dashboard and report creation, data visualisation practice and DAX.
- Robust SQL skills for data extraction, manipulation and optimisation.
- Hands-on experience with Python for data processing, scripting and automation.
- Experience in the financial services industry, particularly with market risk concepts such as VaR, sensitivities and stress testing.
- Proficiency in writing technical scope documents and test plans.
- Experience with Control-M or other job scheduling tools for orchestrating data pipelines is desirable.
- Experience with Streamlit for building interactive web applications for data visualisation is desirable.
- Experience migrating legacy data platforms (SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS) to cloud-based solutions such as Snowflake and Power BI is desirable.
- Experience reverse engineering Excel EUCs and implementing ELT processes to replace them is desirable.
- Experience with Azure containers, such as Blob Storage, and Azure Data Lake Storage (Gen2) is desirable.
Behavioural Competence
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, enabling collaboration within a large, international team and with a range of stakeholders.
- A proactive approach, taking responsibility for development, testing and debugging, and delivering results in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organisational skills and a disciplined, structured approach to working independently and to tight deadlines.
- The ability to manage expectations, adapt to change and prioritise workload effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Sound judgement and strong decision-making skills.
- A fast-learning aptitude, able to grasp and apply new information within a complex domain.
- Strong English language speaking and writing skills for clear and effective communication.
