This is a leadership-focused role for a highly experienced SMSF professional who can balance technical accounting expertise with people management and client relationship responsibilities.

The successful candidate will oversee the work performed by team members, review deliverables for accuracy and compliance, provide technical guidance on complex SMSF matters, and act as a key point of contact for clients and advisers. You will also be responsible for mentoring and developing team members while ensuring exceptional client service standards are maintained

Key Responsibilities

SMSF Accounting & Technical Review

- Prepare and review SMSF financial statements, income tax returns, workpapers, and compliance-related documentation.
- Review and approve work completed by accountants and senior accountants.
- Ensure all deliverables meet quality, compliance, and regulatory standards.
- Provide technical guidance on SMSF accounting, taxation, and compliance matters.
- Ensure compliance with SMSF regulatory requirements, including BAS, IAS,TBAR,PAYG, and annual reporting obligations.
- Handle complex accounting and taxation matters escalated by team members.

Team Leadership & Management

- Lead, mentor, coach, and develop a team of SMSF accountants.
- Review team workloads and allocate tasks effectively.
- Conduct quality reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Monitor team performance, productivity, and delivery timelines.
- Support hiring, onboarding, training, and capability development initiatives.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture.
- Drive process improvements and operational efficiencies.

Client Management & Stakeholder Engagement





- Manage a portfolio of SMSF clients.
- Serve as a trusted adviser to clients and stakeholders.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication.
- Participate in client meetings and provide professional advice on SMSF-related matters.
- Liaise directly with clients, advisers, auditors, the ATO, and other external stakeholders.
- Independently manage client queries and ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Deliver exceptional client service and maintain high client satisfaction levels.

Required Skills & Experience

- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of Australian accounting experience with significant SMSF exposure.
- Strong hands-on experience preparing and reviewing SMSF financial statements and tax returns.
- Extensive knowledge of SMSF legislation, taxation, compliance, and reporting requirements.
- Proven experience reviewing work prepared by junior and senior accountants.
- Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, and managing accounting teams.
- Strong people management and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Experience using Class Super and/or other leading SMSF platforms.
- Strong knowledge of Australian accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, and similar systems.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven client-facing experience with Australian clients.
- Ability to independently manage client relationships and conduct client meetings.
- Robust analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Capability to manage multiple priorities, clients, and team deliverables simultaneously
