Department: Nursing Services

Position: Nursing Superintendent / Nursing Manager / ANS

Reports To: Medical Superintendent / Hospital Administrator / Facility Director

Hospital Size: 30 to 50 Beds | Multispecialty Hospital

SUMMARY The Nursing Superintendent will be responsible for the overall administration, supervision and smooth functioning of the Nursing Department of the hospital.

The role will also ensure effective implementation of hospital policies, SOPs, clinical protocols and applicable NABH/quality standards.

Role & Responsibilities:

A. Nursing Administration

- Overall in-charge of nursing services and nursing personnel.
- Ensure smooth functioning of nursing services on a 247 basis.
- Plan, organize and supervise nursing services across wards, ICU, OT, emergency, OPD and other clinical areas as applicable.
- Conduct regular rounds of all nursing areas and identify operational or patient-care issues.
- Ensure implementation of nursing policies, SOPs, protocols and hospital rules.
- Maintain high standards of qualified nursing practice and patient care.
- Coordinate with the Medical Superintendent, Hospital Administrator and clinical departments regarding nursing-related matters.
- Ensure proper handover/takeover between shifts.

B. Nursing Manpower Management
- Assess nursing manpower requirements based on bed strength, occupancy, patient acuity and departmental workload.
- Prepare and monitor nursing duty rosters for all shifts.
- Ensure adequate staffing during day, evening, night, weekends and holidays.
- Coordinate with HR for recruitment, replacement and deployment of nursing staff.
- Participate in interviews and selection of nursing personnel.




- Ensure appropriate deployment of nurses according to qualification, experience and competency.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, absenteeism, leave and staff discipline.
- Evaluate performance of nursing staff and recommend training, recognition or corrective action where required.

Conduct induction/orientation programmes for newly joined nursing staff.

- Identify training and competency-development requirements.
- Organize regular Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) programmes.

- Conduct training on

- BLS/Basic Emergency Care

- Medication Safety

- Infection Control

- Patient Safety

- Documentation

- Biomedical Waste Management
- Fire & Disaster Safety

- Code Blue/Emergency Response
- Maintain training and competency records.
- Mentor Nursing Supervisors, Ward In-charges and Staff Nurses.

G. Nursing Inventory & Equipment H. Coordination with Clinical & Support Departments

Maintain effective coordination with

QUALIFICATION

Essential:

- B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing / GNM from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration with the respective State Nursing Council.

1. EXPERIENCE

- 5 to 10 years of total nursing experience preferred.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in Nursing Administration / Nursing Supervisor / Assistant Nursing Superintendent / Nursing In-charge role.
- Experience in a multispecialty hospital is preferred.
- Experience in NABH-accredited hospitals will be an added advantage.
