The Role

Sr Software Engineer (Business Central)

Build reliable data foundations that power business decisions through Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

As a Sr. Software Engineer (Business Central), you will lead the design, development and optimization of data solutions that integrate Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central with enterprise data platforms. This role combines deep Business Central technical expertise with data engineering, reporting and integration experience to ensure trusted, scalable and high-performing data solutions across the organization.

You will work closely with business stakeholders, solution architects, data engineers and analytics teams to deliver reliable data pipelines, reporting solutions and integrations that enable informed business decisions.

What You'll Do

- Lead the technical design and implementation of Business Central data integrations with enterprise data platforms.
- Design, develop and optimize AL extensions, APIs and data extraction frameworks for reporting and analytics.
- Build and maintain scalable data pipelines between Business Central, Azure SQL, Databricks, Data Lake and other enterprise systems.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, views and data models to support business intelligence and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with data engineering teams to design efficient ETL/ELT processes and ensure high-quality data movement.




- Drive data quality initiatives by implementing reconciliation processes, validation frameworks and monitoring solutions.
- Lead the migration of legacy reporting solutions (SSRS, Excel Reports, etc.) to modern Power BI and cloud-based reporting platforms.
- Design and implement integrations using Business Central APIs, web services, Azure Functions, Logic Apps and Power Automate.
- Review technical designs, code and database implementations to ensure scalability, performance and maintainability.
- Mentor developers on AL development standards, SQL optimization, integration best practices and data architecture.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues involving Business Central, integrations, SQL databases and reporting platforms.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to implement CI/CD pipelines for Business Central extensions and reporting deployments.
- Work closely with functional consultants and business users to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve platform performance, automation and data reliability.

- Advanced SQL development and database optimization skills.

- Strong understanding of Business Central APIs, OData, Web Services and external system integrations.
- Experience building scalable reporting solutions using Power BI, Paginated Reports and SQL Reporting Services.
- Knowledge of Azure Integration Services including Logic Apps, Azure Functions, Service Bus and Power Automate.




- Experience designing data validation, reconciliation and monitoring frameworks.
- Solid understanding of Business Central data model and financial, sales, purchasing, manufacturing and inventory processes.
- Experience with Git, Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and modern development practices.
- Excellent leadership, mentoring and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to solve complex technical and data challenges.

What You Need

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 6+ years of Microsoft Dynamics NAV/Business Central technical development experience.
- Strong expertise in AL development, extensions, customization and upgrade projects.
- Strong understanding of the Business Central data model and core financial, sales, purchasing, manufacturing, warehouse, and inventory processes.
- Extensive experience with SQL Server, Azure SQL, database design and query optimization.
- Experience integrating Business Central with enterprise applications using APIs and Azure services.
- Strong knowledge of Power BI, data warehousing and reporting architectures.
- Experience working with Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, or similar cloud data platforms is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with source control (Git), Azure DevOps and CI/CD deployment pipelines.
- Experience leading technical teams and mentoring developers.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, coding standards and solution architecture.
