Senior QA Engineer / QA Lead
Experience: 8+ Years
Location: Bangalore
Role: Senior QA Engineer / QA Lead
Client Exposure: Strong experience working directly with US-based clients
Primary Focus: End-to-End Product Quality, Functional Testing, Product Ownership & Release Readiness
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior QA Engineer / QA Lead with 8+ years of experience in ensuring end-to-end quality of software applications. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on expertise across the complete Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC) and proven experience working directly with US clients and stakeholders.
This role requires someone who goes beyond traditional testing responsibilities and takes end-to-end ownership of product quality. The candidate should be capable of understanding business objectives and user needs, challenging requirements where necessary, identifying functional and usability gaps, and ensuring that every release delivers a reliable and high-quality customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
End-to-End Quality Ownership
Own and drive end-to-end quality assurance across the complete software development lifecycle.
Understand the product from business, functional, technical, and end-user perspectives.
Ensure requirements are complete, testable, and aligned with expected business outcomes.
Establish appropriate QA processes, testing strategies, quality gates, and release-readiness criteria.
Identify functional gaps, edge cases, integration risks, usability concerns, and potential production issues proactively.
Ensure critical business workflows are thoroughly validated before production deployment.
Act as the quality gatekeeper for releases, providing clear QA sign-off and highlighting risks before Go-Live.
Work closely with Engineering, Product, Business, DevOps, Support, and other stakeholders to continuously improve product quality.
Functional & End-to-End Testing
Plan, design, execute, and oversee comprehensive testing covering:
Smoke Testing
Sanity Testing
Functional Testing
System Testing
System Integration Testing
End-to-End Testing
Regression Testing
Exploratory Testing
Usability Testing
Compatibility / Cross-Browser Testing
API and Integration Testing
Negative and Edge-Case Testing
User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
Production Validation / Post-Deployment Testing
Ensure test coverage includes positive, negative, boundary, exception, failure, and real-world business scenarios.
Test Planning & Management
Analyze business requirements, functional specifications, user stories, workflows, and acceptance criteria.
Develop comprehensive Test Strategies, Test Plans, Test Scenarios, Test Cases, Regression Suites, and Traceability Matrices.
Estimate testing efforts and plan QA activities according to sprint and release timelines.
Prioritize testing based on business criticality, application risk, dependencies, and customer impact.
Maintain effective regression suites for critical application workflows.
Track QA progress, defects, coverage, risks, dependencies, and release readiness.
Perform root-cause analysis for production defects and drive preventive actions.
Defect Management
Identify, document, prioritize, and track defects through closure.
Create high-quality defect reports containing clear reproduction steps, supporting evidence, expected versus actual behavior, severity, and business impact.
Work closely with developers to reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve complex defects.
Perform defect triage and recommend appropriate severity and priority.
Conduct thorough retesting and regression testing after fixes.
Analyze defect leakage and recurring production issues and recommend process improvements.
US Client & Stakeholder Management
Work directly with US-based clients, Product Owners, Business Analysts, Engineering teams, and other stakeholders.
Participate confidently in client meetings, requirement discussions, sprint ceremonies, demos, UAT sessions, and release discussions.
Clarify requirements directly with client stakeholders when necessary.
Communicate QA progress, quality metrics, risks, blockers, and release-readiness status clearly.
Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for direct client interaction.
Proactively raise risks and recommend solutions instead of waiting for issues to impact delivery.
Be comfortable working with reasonable overlap with US business hours when client collaboration requires it.
Required Skills & Experience
8+ years of hands-on Software Quality Assurance experience.
Strong experience testing complex web-based/software applications.
Proven ownership of end-to-end application quality.
Robust hands-on experience across multiple functional testing methodologies.
Experience working directly with US clients and stakeholders.
Solid understanding of SDLC, STLC, Agile/Scrum, and release management processes.
Excellent requirement analysis and test-design capabilities.
Strong knowledge of defect lifecycle and defect-management practices.
Experience validating complex business rules, workflows, integrations, and APIs.
Strong understanding of REST APIs, JSON, HTTP methods/status codes, and API testing.
Experience with tools such as JIRA, TestRail, Postman or equivalent.
Good understanding of databases and ability to perform SQL-based data validation.
Experience supporting and coordinating UAT and Production Release Validation.
Solid analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent client-facing written and verbal communication skills.
Key Competencies The successful candidate should demonstrate:
End-to-End Ownership – Takes responsibility for overall product quality rather than individual test cases.
Customer Mindset – Evaluates the application from the perspective of actual users and clients.
Product Thinking – Understands why a feature is being built, not just what needs to be tested.
Attention to Detail – Identifies gaps, inconsistencies, edge cases, and hidden risks.
Proactiveness – Raises quality concerns early and proposes solutions.
Leadership – Guides QA teams and influences quality practices across Engineering and Product teams.
Client Communication – Communicates confidently and professionally with US stakeholders.
Critical Thinking – Challenges assumptions and requirements constructively.
Quality Advocacy – Represents product quality throughout requirements, development, testing, UAT, release, and post-production validation.
Expected Outcome of the Role The Senior QA Engineer / QA Lead will act as the end-to-end quality owner of the application, ensuring that every release is functionally correct, stable, integrated, usable, and aligned with business and customer expectations.
The role is expected to bridge the gap between Quality Assurance, Business Requirements, Product Ownership, and Customer Experience, helping the team prevent defects rather than simply identifying them after development.
