About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager – Java Backend to lead backend engineering teams and drive the design, development, and delivery of highly scalable and reliable technology products.

The ideal candidate will have 9+ years of software engineering experience, with strong hands-on expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and distributed systems, along with proven experience managing and mentoring engineering teams.

This role requires a strong combination of technical leadership, people management, architecture, and delivery ownership.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and manage a team of backend engineers and senior developers.

Drive the architecture, design, development, and delivery of scalable backend systems.

Provide strong technical leadership across Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and distributed systems.

Define engineering best practices, coding standards, design principles, and development processes.

Own technical roadmap, engineering execution, and delivery timelines.

Work closely with Product, Design, QA, DevOps, Data, and Business teams.

Translate product requirements into scalable technical solutions.

Review system architecture and make critical technical decisions.

Conduct architecture and code reviews to ensure quality and maintainability.

Identify and resolve complex technical, performance, scalability, and reliability challenges.

Establish engineering metrics and continuously improve development and delivery processes.

Drive production readiness, observability, monitoring, and incident management.

Mentor engineers and help build a robust engineering culture.

Participate in hiring, team building, performance management, and career development.

Manage multiple projects and priorities while ensuring timely delivery.





Stay updated with emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve the technology stack.

Technical Requirements

Backend Development

9+ years of experience in software engineering, with significant backend development experience.

Strong hands-on experience with Java.

Excellent knowledge of Java 8/11/17+.

Strong experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data, and Hibernate/JPA.

Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and Microservices.

Excellent understanding of OOP, Multithreading, Concurrency, Collections, and JVM.

Strong knowledge of Distributed Systems and System Design.

Experience building high-scale, highly available backend applications.

Databases

Strong experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle.

Good understanding of database design, indexing, query optimization, and performance tuning.

Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB is a plus.

Cloud & DevOps

Experience working with AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Good understanding of Docker and Kubernetes.

Experience with CI/CD pipelines.

Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or OpenTelemetry.

People & Engineering Leadership

Proven experience managing and mentoring engineering teams.

Ability to build high-performing and collaborative teams.

Strong experience with technical hiring and team scaling.

Ability to provide regular technical and career guidance to engineers.

Strong understanding of performance management and goal setting.

Ability to create a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Good to Have

Experience with Apache Kafka / event-driven architecture.

Experience with Redis, Elasticsearch, or other distributed systems.

Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.

Strong understanding of security, scalability, and reliability engineering.
