Primary (Physical) - Senior Design Engineer - Substation

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare detailed engineering deliverables for AIS & GIS substations from 33kV to 765kV
- Prepare design to support detailed engineering drawings such as General Arrangement Plans, Elevations, Connection details (Erection Key Diagrams), Above and Below grade Conduit layouts & connection detail, Grounding layouts & connection detail, Lighting & Lightning protection with respective details, Control House layout, Bill of Materials
- Prepare design calculations such as Lighting, lightning Protection, Grounding, Cable Sizing, Conduit fill calculation, using industry Standard software such as CDEGS, ETAP, WinIGS, Mathcad, Visual Lighting / Dialux
- Perform Equipment selection and Sizing calculations (Transformer, cables, busbar, etc)
- Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Communication Networks, Transmission Line, etc.)
- Reviewing designs and attending virtual meetings and coordinating with Clients
- Monitor project schedules and collaborate with team members to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables
- Produce detailed electrical substation design packages compliant with the required client technical standards or IEC/IEEE/NESC
- Coordinate design activities with other companies Global Practices and Office Locations
- Preparation of proposals and scope development, including conceptual designs and execution plans
- Prepare engineering cost and man-hour estimates and schedules. Provide guidance and mentoring to colleagues & Subordinates
- Develop and improve processes and tools and/or implement new technologies and automation into the design process
- Perform quality reviews for other engineers and designers
- Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and engineering judgment in resolving problems
- Assist with the advancement and development of department processes,



tools and workflows to increase the efficiency of designs, specification development, and project execution. Also, implement current technologies & automation into the design process
- Undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be asked of this position by management
- Participate in training/meetings to address specific organizational initiatives

Qualifications and Experience

- Bachelors or master’s degree in electrical/Electrical & Electronics from an accredited institution
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Substation
- Knowledge of engineering design management best practices, with the ability to effectively implement them
- Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills
- Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
- Strong diligence, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Identify opportunities for design upgrades, improvements, or provide value engineering solutions
- Ability to manage tasks across multiple projects and conflicting deadlines
- Capable of working independently and/or as part of a project team
- Ability to develop innovative and practical solutions to a variety of problems, with an understanding of how one issue may relate to a broader solution
- Ability to make an effective and collaborative contribution to the team through sharing knowledge, promoting ideas, and valuing the contribution of all team members
- Candidate should be acquainted with NESC, IEEE standards. Experience with US, Canada and UK projects is preferable. Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution (e.g., IET, CIGRE, IEC, IEEE etc.) is preferable
- Experience with software such as CDEGS and WinIGS is preferred
- Experience with 3D tools for physical design is preferred
